Arialstarbrook: Yes, you can be a surgeon and a nice person at the same time..but nothing worse than hearing complaints about scutwork from junior residents or medical students,,As I said before, surgery is a way of life that needs commitment, hard work, passion and excellent knowledge to better serve your critically ill paients...with all this, you cant keep hearing complaints ?? I am sorry to hear that scutwork, in your experience, means faxing, food and phone calls..Just look at the pleasant side of the profession. Good luck! ;)

You guys have no idea what scutwork is all about !!, eventually you all will get more senior and spend most of your time in the OR doing the real stuff!! At that time, the same people will keep complaining but in a different way!! Just be mature and responsible, stop complaning and get the damn job done, Surgery is a way of life!

ahsen, scutwork is essentially any task you are delegated to do that in no way uses your medical training or enhances your clinical experience: this can be anything from faxing and phone calls that may be related to patient care to getting your residents food when you're on call. it sucks! it's something you get stuck doing just b/c your at the bottom of the totem pole.

lol.... so funny and so true : ) but as we move on from being medstudents in the land of scutopia to residents and attendings, let us always remember what it was like being the scut monkey and not return the favor when we are in power!
