Tamashas are the dramas and comedies performed by local artists on the bustling streets of Mumbai. The art featured in TAMASHA exhibition reflects the spirit of such distinctly Indian performances as featured on the Indian silverscreen.
Bollywood billboard artists have developed their own unique styles to attract Indian audiences to the hundreds of movies produced each year in India since 1918. These billboards have decorated town centers and high rises in India, reflecting the rapidly changing society and its quest for fantasy and escape. This exhibit will take the journey full circle, back to the public, while maintaining the new celebratory spirit of this dying art being revived in a different cultural context.
Opening Night Gala: Saturday September 10th, 8pm - 11pm.
