Texas Masraweyeen

Any Texas (Houston) Masraweyeen, or know of any? How has this experience been like for you? Subhan Allah, I can't even imagine how it would be like to evacuate and leave all of your personal memories and history behind. Subhan Allah, it is a reminder that Allah is the only permanent reality in this life.

I've heard some difficult stories regarding the people who had to pack up and go, getting stuck on the road, etc. May Allah make this situation easy insha'Allah, and protect you from any harm.

Tamenoona when you get the chance.

Well thats great that you enjoyed Egypt so much. As you know I was only there for about 2 weeks, I really didnt have much time to enjoy it as much as I wanted to. Most of my time there was spent on "zeyarat" but we ended up going to the sa7el el shamaly the last few days before I left. That was really nice. The engagement party was really great, better than I ever dreamed it would be. Alhamdlellah. oh and thanks again for the congrats ya ostaz! :)

The huge storm took place in Gadda, Saudi Arabia last April. It was reported that this has not taken place in many years.

Here are some pictures:

In general, I feel that there is a significant climate change throughout the world...? Or subhan Allah, there are hadiths that say that such events are reminders from Allah to straighten along the right path. Allahu a3lam...

New Cairo:
"i want to ask, Did Sudia arabia ever suffered from natural disaster ever?"

==============

I read recently that in some areas, they had major "seyool" (unsure how to translate in English)...like a huge amount of rainfall+hail that ruined many houses, and affected many individuals.

Even if they don't have a natural disaster per se, I think that their wealth is a huge "fetna" especially when it is not spent in the appropriate manner like building huge castles. I saw some of those pictures, I could not believe what I saw. May Allah bless us with money, but to use righteously insha'Allah.

Brother New Cairo, you said:
"thanks God our countries back home don't have these issues that much".
-------

True, but we have much bigger issues that make natural disasters seem like a drop of water in the sea. We have man-made disasters (like the buildings that fall for violating building standards). Also corruption on many levels, bad economy, lack of opportunities, etc. And it is of significance that Egypt started experiencing earthquakes. Rabena yostor 3alena gamee3an insha'Allah.

And thank you for the information on hurricanes vs. tornadoes. I think we have aspiring meteorologists amidst us :) (meteorologist...now that's a tough word to spell, lol)..

can't read you guys' comments, but, if the tornado hurricane question was answered, then I apologize for repeating.

A hurricane is basicaly very strong wind alot of rain, that well in the gulf area causes flooding, and other disasters. A tornado, is also strong wind but it is more like a funnel that extends to the ground. It graps things and throws them out, etc.. You can see a tornado, but cant see a hurricane, if that makes sense.

Ahmed: No alhamdlellah I didnt, but know people that did. We got lucky, both hurricanes just passed through without alot of damage other than some trees falling etc...

hmm.. maybe.
OR:
hurricanes form over water (tropical waters), from the interaction between these waters and the atmosphere above them. Tornadoes usually form beneath thunderstorms (on land).
I'm no meteorologist, but i'm fairly confident in that explanation.

hurican is a combination of many tornados or produce many tornados and it's much bigger size and stronger than a tornado. tornado is just one tornado.

How would life be without google, sigh :)

A bit of hurricane-names trivia
geography.about.com
www.nhc.noaa.gov

It was interesting to learn that they used to actually just name them after females until 1978.

Now the important question...what's the difference between a hurricane and a tornado? );

Ahmed, they are called by male names also. Hurricane andrew, etc...

Anyway, what sucks more than having to evacuate texas, is evacuating louisiana, going to houston (Tx), then had to evacuate AGAIN!! How sad and frustrating

kidding of course about the shoes...*blush*
As for books, I'll let this famous arabic poetry verse speak of a book's many priceless values, specifically if beneficial and not just reading to pass time.

(a3az makan fel dona serjon sabe7, wa khayro jaleeson fel zamani ketab) :)

As for the hurricanes...some people joked and added to your question the following, why especially female names :)

Elhamdulilah the hurricane didn't turn out to be devastating. I had meant to write earlier about a prayer that the prophet (peace be upon him) taught us to say when encountering strong wind. I guess I can still mention it.

"Oh Allah, I ask you the best from it, and seek refuge in you from its destructive aspect"

"Allahom eni as2alak khayraha wa khayr ma feeha, wa khayr ma arsalt beh, wa a3oozo beka men sharaha, wa shar ma feeha, wa shar ma arsalt beh".

Another narration reports: "Allahom eni as2alaka men khayraha, wa a3oozo beka men sharaha".

El-hurricane season kheles wala lesa ba2a?!!
I was mainly glad because the news coverage took the focus away from Muslims somewhat and made them pay attention to something else besides "terrorism" . Speaking of that, I received a humorous email saying that George Bush is implicating Al-Qaeda for the hurricanes P:

Boy do I digress... );

And girls..girls...girls...why the dilemma, take the O.C. book AND the shoes :)

I think I would take everything of memory value, such as pictures, cards, etc.

It was devastating for a lot of people. We left Houston wednesday night and it took us 16 hours on the road although it would usually take 3 hours to get to dallas! Alhamdulillah everyone's safe and the hurricane only caused slight damage in our area. We'll probably head back wednesday
