Ulfah Arts - Spoken Word
Biography:
An emerging arts organisation led by Naz Koser, The Ulfah Collective is a group of women from different backgrounds, (predominantly practising Muslims) whose performances include storytelling, poetry, singing and drumming. Their current show "The Journey To The Great Mosaic", launched in Edinburgh and is now touring the UK.
Project Summary:
Ulfah Arts presents a new work in progress "Poem of the Cloak" or Qasidah Burdah by Imam Sharafuddin Muhammad Al-Busairi (1212 C.E - 1296 C.E)
A masterpiece of Arabic literature, for centuries influencing the relationship of the Muslim world with the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), The Burdah (Poem of the Cloak) is sung everywhere from Morocco to Malaysia. This performance is a rare celebration of women's relationship to this unique poem.
2nd June 2006, 12.30pm
This is a women's only preformance
