Yes Platoshadow, that?s what I am talking about... to build bridges within Muslim community. For instance Islam is more of a dividing force then combing in Muslims all over the world. We take more pride on over sectarian identity then being Muslim. We are more spectacles about Muslims from a different sect then a non-Muslim.
Neo-religious melting pots? not my cup of tea.

i was on holiday and met this dutch couple. was talking to them about the situation in the netherlands after the murder of theo van gogh. they didnt really know much about how theri north african neighbours were feeling. but they did know that a mosque was being built in their locality.

we need to start talking.

otherwise, am completely with you plato

i think we need to bridge bridges with the wider communities in which we live. i think because of the food and drink rules in islam, as well as the cultures that most muslims in the west have come from, we have tended to be a bit isolationist.

this has got to change. we've got to interact with wider society and show them who we are, how we live. basically talk to them.

what the hell is a mosque of all faiths?

bugger that all inclusive stuff. sorry but there is a difference between religions. unless you are talking about shi'a sunni sufi divides. in which case i agree.
but neo-religious melting pots are watered down theology, and, i feel miss much of the essence of the faiths they enmesh. namely, the faith part.

Spirituality on the other hand, rocks, and that is too often lost in mosques of any and all faiths.

so if that's what you mean, then maybe.

I'm gonna agree with PD
we need schools, science, and libraries.
We need strong civic infrastructures, governments that serve the people, and people that work to create a future, rather than reminiscing about the past.

after taht we need medical infrustructure (although arguably a civic infrastructure in its own right).

bridges are built through the efforts of the educated, openminded and optimistic.

a bridge built now will have too few to use it. and will serve no more purpose than to sap our very slim resourses.

fix your own home, then go and help the neighbors.

how about more schools, more hospitals, more free clinics, more vocational schools, more research in science, more libraries, more museums....
