The correct answer to the question...."Why am I still single?"
I posted this as a journal but don't know what's the best forum to post it...so, here it goes..
The correct answer to the question...."Why am I still single?"
I turned 35 a few days ago and this question seems to pop up several times a day since my birthday. I have tried to answer the question honestly and truthfully but it doesn't seem to "satisfy" the questioners. Truth is, I focused completely on my career till a couple of years ago. I have considered getting married seriously only during the past 12-18 months. During this time, I have not made a mutual connection with someone that interested me. Indeed, there have been girls that were interested in me and vice versa but there has never been a mutual connection. However, this explanation doesn't seem to cut it with a lot of folks. Most say "well, you just don't want to get married. You find a reason to say no if the girl shows interest." I don't think that's true. If I meet the right person, I can see myself being married in weeks, not months or years (Inshallah). I am genuinely committted to finding the right person and some of my recent career decisions have been influenced by that commitment, i.e., I recently turned down a very lucrative opportunity to work in Zurich so that I can stay focused on my current path. However, I don't feel like getting into this level of detail with everyone who asks the question. Is there a simple answer to the question that's truthful but can still "satisfy" most enquirers?

1) Who in the world can keep asking you this dumb question a few times EVERY single day since you turned 35?
2) Continue to be picky brutha. You gotta live with the broad the rest of your freakin' life and if you can't stand her now, forget about later.
3) DO NOT MARRY SOMEONE YOU MET WEEKS AGO! Marrying a women is like buying a 2 story house. Before you move in you get one story. When you move in, you get another! Take it slow and give yourself AT LEAST ONE FULL YEAR from the date of engagement.
4) Have fun while dating. Don't make it a point that you are on this date to find your soul mate. Be natural and be yourself when meeting these women. Act as if you were hanging with your friends. Be the real you. That is the only way there will ever be a REAL mutual connection.
5) STOP TURNING DOWN LUCRATIVE OPPORTUNITIES! You ahve a chance to make some more money and are not tied down or committed to anything major where you're at it at the moment, dont be a fool. You should make the move and take that money. Your women could be in Zurich for all you know!
HAPPY JINAN??? :#
i hate being bugged by aunts and even more when they keep asking my mom as to what she's doing to get me settled...DUH!, actin as if they could care more for me than my folks
I totally understand what you're going through, because you're not alone. I get asked the same thing at parties and other get togethers all the time. I've learned over the years that a question like this and other personal questions cannot be justified with an answer. People mean well, but they come across offensive and obnoxious. Don't worry what people think, you know who your true friends are. When you find the right person, is the day you'll get married! Don't let these people get to you! Somewhere deep down inside, they mean well. (I think!) ;)
I think people don't realize that it isn't that easy to find that mutual connection. It really can take a lot of time, a lot of false starts, etc.
I wish you the best!
