The Dressing Issue

Alright Ladies, I'm all about style and fashion like many of you here. I've always worn whatever I wanted as long as it was in good taste. I like to dress classy and sexy. what I dont understand is every single muslim guy I've come across wiether liberal or conservative has an issue with the way a woman dresses!!! The muslim men that drink and sleep around want to control the way their wife dresses. The abcd guys freak out if his girl puts on a mini. The Fob will never allow any form of bathing suit. The religious bearded fellas ofcourse will not accept anything other then hijab. I cant understand this anymore! Why is dressing such a big deal for the eastern men? I mean we live in a western society. I believe in blending in and dressing for the occasion. My sister went out with this desi guy- friend one day and he had his eye on every girl at the resturant. He even told my sister how hot they looked!!! Then he starts talking about how he wants his wife covered up from head to toes...lol. As far as I'm concerned, he'll be thinking of these women while he's getting it on with his wife! I'm soo fu*$king tired of clothing being an issue on every man's list. I try to be the best muslim and person I can be but dont think I want to give up my modern-day fashion (skirts, shorts, tanks, etc) and for anyone.

what are you thoughts?

Guys, (actually girls in this case), just like a girl said to me once, you gotta go through a lot of rotten apples at the bottom of an apple tree to get to the clean, good, ripe ones at the top. I'm sure guys like UC and his bro go through the same dilema you girls go through in terms of meeting quality, like minded muslim women. It's fine to vent, but like any success story, meeting the right person for you takes a lot of hard work, maturity and patience but it's all worth it at the end. Good luck to everyone here!

UC, Mr.Grey is a guy that is inbetween black and white, Meaning, that he is in the middle in terms to religion, values, and morals. Mr. Grey is the guy that is a good guy all the way around. Many of us american born/raised girls either run into very conservative or very liberl guys. we all want a combination of both east and west cultures. For some reason that is sooo hard to find. The sad thing is most abcd guys I've come across are hypocrites. They all do what ever they like but if they see a a girl who is modern , outspoken, independent, and makes her own decsions, they freak out! They all assume she will not be the type of woman who will make a good wife. I get the notion that many of these guys are not looking for an equal. They are looking for a maid and a baby-maker they can control.

Nazneen, Interesting analogy. I guess some where we can blend in both. However, I stll believe in dressing for the occasion.

I believe there is no big deal about blending the cultures together, at the same time the clothing should follow the islamic rules. Meaning, that you could still wear skirts(not minis), pants or what but should not be completely revealing to everyone. Yeah most people think they are "blending" the 2 but really just choosing one culture. I come from a household with two different cultures without even putting into account that I live in America. My mom is Caucasion and my father is Pakistan, we grew up in both, I wear the shalwar/kameezes when it is called for but at the same(in my pictures) I still wear the American clothing. The point that I am trying to make is that you dont have to wear the mini skirts and the see through clothing to be accepted and not neglecting the Islamic values. The man issue is a whole new story and I dont want to really go into, first because I dont know what they are really thinking and second, it is too complicated to even discuss.
