The FOUR POISONS to the HEART

Salaams everyone,

We all know that acts of disobedience are poison for the heart and cause its sickness and ruin. They result in its will running off course, against that of Allah, and so its sickness festers and increases.

I came across this hadith by Ibn al-Mubarak who said: ?I have seen wrong actions killingb hearts and their degradation may lead to their becoming addicted to them. Turning away from wrong actions gives life to the hearts and opposing your self is best for it; by the four poisons we mean unnecessary talking, unrestrained glances, too much food, and keeping bad company. Of all the poisons, these are the most widespread and have the greatest effect on a heart's well-being.?

Speaking of too much food? being a nutritionist I find many people end up overeating. I?ve found that the consumption of small amounts of food guarantees tenderness of the heart, strenghtns a person?s intellect, gives one more humility of self, actually works to weaken our desires, and gives our hearts a more gentle temperament. Similarly, immoderate eating brings about the opposite of these praiseworthy qualities? not to mention everyone?s fav ?or shall I say not so fav weight gain!!! #:

:D
