but there is potential for this MMP thing to go very very wrong, a bunch of armed self-declared anti-immigration types guarding the border in the middle of a desert. there is potential for abuse, violence, death... but potential does not equal a crime. someone wants to monitor them, fine, but the ACLU weakens it's case on other issues if it takes and antiMMP stance

not to be all wierd about this. The ACLU's job is to protect American Civil Liberties( the ACL of aclu) and these doof's are americans excercising their civil liberties. I have no problem if another group organized to watch the minuteman project (MMP) but this type of oversite by a group that professes to protect the civil liberties, among which are the right to seek redress of greivances (notifying the authorities about illigal border crossing) the right to organize (MMP) freedom of speech (MMP is anti-immigration and not shy about it) and the right to bear arms (which some, but not all, MMP members do). the MMP hasn't broken any laws, and is only excersising some right, the ACLU if anytone, should be ready to defend these very rights.

I actually haven't heard of this group but i have noticed an upsurge in media articles about illegal immigration and i think that even though groups like this definitely have the right to organize, that the ACLU SHOULD at the least "keep an eye" on them only because if the language they use at these demonstrations is in any way "intimidating" to minority group members, then their actions would be technically prosecutable. Still don't konw enough about it but am interested in learning more.

They have a right to organize. they are doing nothing wrong, it seems unfair to me that they are being watched by the ACLU of all people who should support hteir rights to organize. I'll admit taht this has potential to become a seriously bad thing, but as long as it doesn't they are doing nothing wrong.
