The Reason i Don't speak Urdu or hindi


Cause I'm Arab.

How is that so damn hard to understand?



seriously why do so many people talk to me in some Desi tongue and act surprised when i give them a blank stare/quizzical look?

the homeless ain't desi, the homeless are mostly ex-hippies, and east asians with mental health issues. smattering of latinos here and there, but they mostly don't come into the program.
(don't know why, we need better outreach)

i usually just give him a sneer and say something like "of course i don't speak indian who the hell wants to speak indian?"



sounds harsh? yeah, i know, i figure if i keep it up it'll register and he'l stop doing the whole condescending "what kind of person doesn't speak urdu?" thing.

i'll have ample opportynity, we're working on a homelss health care project

hmm... when he says "how come you don't speak hindi?" he does it with the condescending tones of someone who is talking to a person who doesn't have enough self respect to learn his own language...

it's very annoying.
again, since it isn't my langugae, and it's the SAME tosser every time.

thats fine, whatever, but! it's always the same dude who coems up and rattles off a serious of soudns then looks at me and goes "you don't speak (insert desi lingo here) ?? why not?"

it' happens about twice a week. same dude.

Happens the other way around too. Some Arab people will speak arabic to my desi friends. Maybe it's cuz they feel a certain familiarity with you and their first reaction is to speak w/you in urdu or hindi? Or maybe u just smell like curry.
