I was never intrigued by the title; I must have picked up the book a dozen times before I finally read past the first page. However, it is true that some of the most profound lessons are written in the simplest of terms and are immersed in the mundane events of our lives. I think that's what this book had to offer.

This was another one of those books like THE KITE RUNNER, a book sales phenomenon. Hardcover sales were underwhelming but by the time it was released in paperback, word of mouth had spread about how wonderful a book it was and it's been on the pb list forever now.

Have you guys read her latest: THE MERMAID CHAIR? It's been on the NYTimes bestseller list ever since it debuted. While very different in plot from The Secret Life of Bees, it is still deftly written.

It surprised me too, I wasn't expecting to like it so much. There's this quiet wisdom that you can appreciate and it comes to you from a child. I found it left me feeling similar to how I felt after "To Kill a Mockingbird" Like the most important lessons in life are also the simplest and most basic things we need to know.
