The State of Muslims today

Something's really wrong with the state of our youth when we can choose western ideals more readily than those of our ancestors.. this is not an argument for wearing shalwar kameez all the time and watching asian drama serials non stop, I'm talking about religion, not culture..

Even mentioning Allah or religion is uncool, praying and fasting and the Quran are interesting but not really modern concepts and therefore not necessary (admittedly one of these applies to me.. but I am working to reverse this!)

And it's far healthier to be a sheep and follow our English/ American/ misguided Pak mates when they lie/ cheat/ b!tch/ drink/ smoke/ womanise/ chase men non stop/ think that sex outside marriage is perfectly all right.... and anyway, God is lovely and forgiving, so there's no issue really.

Have we all gone mad?

great explanation coolfire; i am not for forcing religion / preaching to anyone, my argument above was simply, that even talking about this stuff gets a negative response on naseeb; i expect that from my english mates/ colleagues, but not from 99% of Muslims on here; the point I wanted to make was, we pay no attention to the role we have to play as Muslims, which is not to force religion on anyne, but certainly involves directing people towards it if they're unaware that what they're doing is wrong... glamourising sex/ drugs/ culture is all very well, but those of us who are more impressionable may mistake this for a worthwhile lifestyle (in the absence of any advice to the contrary).. there is a hadith to back this up (which I will look up)

I would have to agree with FON. As kids we are taught the Quran like parrots. We don't understand what we are being taught. But as we get older, we seek the true meaning so as a result many of us become very passionate about the teachings and try to force this on our fellow muslims.

unfortunately you cant 'force' religion onto anyone....i think as one gets older one tends to revert back to their roots and faith....i've seen this on countless occasions.....although i do agree that culture/traditions seem to be more important then actually practicing the faith in its truest form.

And with your name comes materialism, because today's culture gives respect to those that look good, live good, and flaunt their money. And all three are characterized by that which is acceptable to the masses i.e. sex, alcohol, and ignorance of God.

Not mad, just fulfilling the predictions of the Day of Judgment. Most of the small ones already happened. We all might as well move to Mecca and be safe from the Dajjal and wait for the Madhi. But in terms of non-Islamic reasoning, most people in the world have taken religion for granted. Culture has morphed into some sort of pseudoreligion where it's almost a sin to go against culture. And people are living and dying for their name instead of their ideals.
