The State of Muslims today

Something's really wrong with the state of our youth when we can choose western ideals more readily than those of our ancestors.. this is not an argument for wearing shalwar kameez all the time and watching asian drama serials non stop, I'm talking about religion, not culture..

Even mentioning Allah or religion is uncool, praying and fasting and the Quran are interesting but not really modern concepts and therefore not necessary (admittedly one of these applies to me.. but I am working to reverse this!)

And it's far healthier to be a sheep and follow our English/ American/ misguided Pak mates when they lie/ cheat/ b!tch/ drink/ smoke/ womanise/ chase men non stop/ think that sex outside marriage is perfectly all right.... and anyway, God is lovely and forgiving, so there's no issue really.

Have we all gone mad?

at the end of the day, when and if we decide to 'better' ourselves, it is our choice. we listen to others to find out the options available, if any then make our own decisions...

I agree with that, Nussie! Share what's good and concentrate on that.

We have the freedom to choose how we live our lives, whether we drink alcohol or not, have sex before, during and after marriage, eat halaal, non-halaal its totally up to the individual and it is between him/her and God but by boasting about these activities it could be seen as encouraging (sin) to others - On the other hand whether we remember God, pray regularly, or feel a closeness to him and we share this with others that is quite the opposite of boasting and is encouraged in Islam to make others aware and the spread the message - Would you agree Labs?

to be honest mchowdry, apart from the years we spent in saudi/ pak, my family haven't made a big deal about eating halal at school/ outside (we had halal meat cooked at home though).. until 2 yrs ago I wasn't bothered either as this allowed us to concentrate on more important things.. rather than starting off w/ halal food but being into drink/ drugs/ men instead..

I agree with Labs. Also most people don't even seem to know what halal is, or why it's important. Sad but true.

emma, the halal food thing seems like a bit of a red herring (also halal food) to me.. like saying what's on your plate is more important, not whether you stop lying/ stealing or start remembering God.. sahadat.. the reason one shouldn't brag about sex/ other vices is to discourage the more impressionable (kids/ 18 yr olds/ ppl with slack judgement?) from following it... it's not lying so much as acknowledging it when you make a mistake, saying these things are bad for you.. and get you into trouble (as opposed to saying... these things are good for you and i've been getting away with this stuff for 18 years!)... also there's a saying about choosing one's friends carefully as one chooses friends whose habits one admires.. (therefore telling one's friends what one gets up to is 1 step away from encouragement/ bound to influence them)

MC, my comment wasnt directed at anyone in particular, just general. Labs, some ppl do. I grew up in kent , no halal food there, so it was really difficult to eat halal. If ppl eat halal even if it intended or not its still good isnt it?

We should lie? Why? I have no problem saying, for eg, that I have prenarital sex. It's just data. What you do with it is your look-out...
