The Stereotypes
OK, not trying to offend anyone here...ok, I'm lying, I'm trying to offend everyone, but equally.
What are some of the stereotypes of desis (both abcd and fob) in this vunderful Amaaarka? Not just generally, but specifics? Part of the reason cheap films like ABCD or American Desi strike a funnybone with us is that they make fun of the stereotypes of the different kinds of desis - and we eat it up cos we've all met people like every character in those movies.
Like, the uber-FOB TA who brings lunch in a tiffin, wears a read dot on his forehead, wears Bata chappal even in the cold, smells of curry, is skinny as hell and who's black as hell and you think he's black until he opens his mouth, at which time the heaviest desi accent you've ever heard in your life comes out....etc etc.
Or, how about the gorified abcd girl who wishes she was a blonde, and so dyes her hair, but it looks unnatural cos her features are still desi, pretends that she can't understand Urdu and hates that she does, always hangs around white girls, and can't stand spicy food...
aight ya'll, let's get this one rollin'...
