The Yoda/Khidr connection...
Have any of you all seen an article about Star Wars in a publication called "Musim Magazine" several years ago when "the Phantom Menace" first came out? A freind named Hakim Archuletta once told me that George Lucas used to hang out in several circles at Berkley and one of them was a bunch of mystics who used to dress in maghribi jilabas (identical to the ones worn by the jedi) and call eachother sidi, or my master. That article went into some of the finer details of this connection and if anyone has a back issue or knows where to find one, i'd like to re-read that articled and rediscover it.
My thoughts are that surely, with Star Wars originally filmed in Tunisia in the late 70's that perhaps it was all simply him borrowing from he tunisian custom but several things come to mind off the top of my head which may point to a much strong connection...search your feelings:
a.) the brothers in a certain branch of the shadhili tariqa, called the darqawa, the same brothers who used to hang out at Berkley in California in the 60's where Lucas was growing up, wore maghribi jilabas or Moroccan thawbs.
b.) the students (padawans) call eachother my master (sidi) while they call their spiritual predecessors juddi/jedi (or grandfather).
c.) the mythology of a far greater mystic than any left in the world named khidr is mentioned in the quran. He is a green man who is hard to find but may sometimes be contacted by the chosen few, in sufi parlance of course, for spiritual guidance as he did with Musa alahi salam in suratul kahf.
d.) You will find, and tell me if i'm wrong, but that some sufi orders, although this may seem to simple to some, operate by mushwara, or council. thus, the jedi council
e.) The original ones to find that the force even existed, and only a complete star wars geek would know this, were the sith lords some 5 thousand years before "A new hope." They became greedy and it was because of their pride and unwillingness to submit to the force, were they banished and dejected, as was the iblis when he was one of the top worshipers of Allah with absolute knowledge of Him and was then cast out of heaven because of his arrogance and pride.
f.) This one is somewhat questionable, but if you watch A new hope, and when luke is coming back from seeing that his uncle and aunt have been killed by gallactic storm troopers, the frame in which he first arrived back to obi one, pause that exact frame and you will see ole ben getting up from making sijda/sujood. watch and learn...
The medichlorion counts found in people who are predispoded to use the force can be compared to fitra in that if we were all on a path back to our ab-original state, a bi-product of that state would be karamat, and forgive me if it's a stretch but many of the "powers" shown in the star wars universe are like the karamat of awliya i.e. reading into peoples thoughts, floating or causing things to float, in general being at one with all that is in the heavens and the earth and thus utilizing its baraka to not so much control it but feel it's presence and embrace it...shall I go on or am I boring you people???
ps anyone play galaxies here? It's an RPG...
Let me know if you have seen the article and may be force be with you all, or to be quite frank may the peace be with you!
