bienveillance, it sounds like a nice project! i had asked that because ive heard of groups saying its ok to do certain things in the name of moderation, which by doing so is actually destorying our youth (in my opinion) rather than teaching and supporting our youth and deen...but from what ur telling me it sounds pretty interesting...everyday life is a subject that everyone needs to talk about, besides ur basic islamic concepts, especally with the youth because they need to know how to deal with everyday issues in an islamic manner otherwise they will end up following more westernised ideas...samspan, ull always find the good and the bad everywhere but alhumdulilah theres plenty of good there :) lol only 110?! at least its not humid otherwise u guys would roast! lol i was there last yr in july and as long as the house and car has AC..its all good lol

I think what they want to emphasize by moderation is that they focus on Iman, but they also address other types of issues in the youth group activities and halaqas. For example, one week they may talk about Surah Fatiha, but the next week they may talk about the 7 characteristics of a successful person or some kind of academic or worldly subject. Another example of moderation is that they have a very positive attitude, but they try to present pluses and minuses (eg. Janaat and Jahanum) in balance. They are trying to create a balanced atmostphere of awareness for the youth. I'm sure that there are more religously intensive groups if that is the type of thing you are interested in. You could find out through the mosques. They have various programs among them.

sounds nice bienveillance, but what do u mean about moderation? and thx :) tasty_spinach, yeah that would be a big plus if it were, but i always felt like those type of communities were kinda hard to find...i guess as long as there are good ppl to befreind, its all good...

There are various groups you could become part of if you are interested in getting involved in the community. Recently they started a new chapter of a muslim youth group here called MAS (Muslim American Society.) I have been involved with them and I like it very much. They are very much into community, service, moderation, friendship. They are very welcoming as well. This group is based out of Tempe. Good luck making your decision!!

Ive visited AZ twice...it does seem like a very nice place to live..i like it because its city like, but not as crazy as NY (where i grew up)...ive been to the masjid near ASU a couple of times and it seemed very nice, but you really dont know anything about a community until u live there...do u know how the ppl are in those areas? so honestly i cant make up my mind if scottadale or tempe is a better place to live lol im looking for an area where the muslim community is very active, like ur saying tempe is and i like diversity because people usually are more open minded about others cultures, hopefully lol...i plan on being an islamic teacher iA, so i need to know about schools...i know they are building one in scottadale and i think there is one assoiated with the masjid near asu...you know anything about that? any others? besides that, places to go! things to see! lool i didnt go many places when i was there...just to the malls, mainly the one in paradise valley...thanks a million!! :)

There is a large Muslime community in the Tempe area...beside ASU... and it's a very active community - diverse.
In general, AZ's a very nice place...it all depends on what you want to do here. There's a little bit of everything. It's not as hip as a large metro area like LA though...all depends on what ur looking for.
