I have a bluetooth phone, a 17 inch PowerBook G4, 60 GB iPod and a bluetooth enabled Palm Tungsten T3. I leave my laptop running all the time and it streams music wirelessly throughout my apt using Airport Express.
My computer and cell phone (Sony Ericsson T610) are always talking to each other so when I'm out of bluetooth range, such as when I leave the apartment, the computer automatically locks the screen and mutes the music. When I come back home and reach the front door (before I even open my door) my laptop automatically wakes up, says "Welcome Back" and starts playing my music for me.
When someone calls, it mutes my music or pauses my dvd and puts up a picture and phone number of the caller on my screen and gives me the option to route the call to voicemail (which is usually what I do when I'm watching a dvd or listening to music). Once I hit route to voicemail, the laptop resumes playing the music/dvd.
I also use my phone as a bluetooth remote when doing powerpoint presentations. Since bluetooth is radio frequency it's great cause I don't have to point the phone at the computer. I can leave it discreetly at my side and still change slides. Meanwhile the phone is automatically timing my presentation and it has a copy of the note field from the PPT file in case I get asked a question which I can't answer off the top of my head.
I store only the numbers I use all the time on my phone. All my other contacts are in my Palm. If I need some rarely used number I can hit dial on the Palm and it will talk to the phone via bluetooth and route the call. If I'm at home and doing the dishes or something I can still answer calls using a bluetooth earbud which allows handsfree calling while my phone is sitting and charging in another room.
Finally, I can use my Palm to surf the web via bluetooth through to my phone. It's unlimited service for 5 bucks a month through T-mobile. This means anywhere my cell phone gets signal, I have web and email access. Speed is slow but it gets the job done. Let's say I'm walking down the street and I realize I need a car ASAP (I don't own one). I can get online with the Palm and go to zipcar.com. I find the nearest zipcar beamer and reserve it. They route the reservation info to the car via satellite so only I can unlock it. I walk up to the car and unlock the car by waving a card up to the card reader that's installed on the inside of the windshield and I'm sitting inside a new 325i that I don't own with free gas.. The keys are already in the ignition.. plug my iPod into the car stereo... Dave Matthews 41, and ready to roll.
