To: All Egyptian Professionals Abroad
Have you always dreamt of a way where your skills and qualifications could be efficiently utilized towards Egypt's development even while you are away?
Have you always wished your visit to Egypt would be more than just visiting family and friends?
Well, here is your dream come true!
It is our pleasure to invite you to be a pioneer in the launching of our program: Egyptian Expatriates for Development (EED). This program has historically been known as the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) TOKTEN: Transfer of Knowledge through Expatriate Nationals, which has been a success in several other countries like Lebanon, Pakistan, China, etc. Nahdet El Mahrousa (NM) is launching a pilot phase of the program aiming at mobilizing our young professionals Diaspora and reversing the brain drain.
The first phase of the EED program entails matching the qualifications and interests of young Egyptian Expatriates (whether second generation Egyptian-Americans or Egyptians living in the US for short periods) who are working in the Information Technology sector, with the needs of Egyptian Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) working in the sector. This usually happens through short visits where the young Egyptian professional transfers expertise and provides technical assistance to the SME. EED will be assisting you in transferring your knowledge contributing to Egypt's national economy and development, through assessing the needs of those applying SMEs and matching them with your qualifications and interests.
NM commits to providing all needed support while you are here in Egypt. Since this is a pilot phase and you would be a pioneer in this, it would be difficult for the project to provide cost-sharing in accommodation and travel expenses. However, we are asking you to also state for us when you would be available in Egypt and whether you would be able to combine your visit with some pro-bono consultancy work with those SMEs. This pilot phase would then help us, together with you, design the program fully and then be able to provide the needed financial cost-sharing in the future.
The pilot phase ends by 2005 since we would then by beginning of January 2005 share our proposal to the UNDP and MCIT. This proposal would be based on your experience and feedback, so, we are hoping that you would be able to do this during November & December 2005, if you have a visit already planned or if you find this a good enough reason to come especially. To help us better match your qualifications and interests with applying SMEs, please find attached a questionnaire that we have designed for you to fill out. We would also highly appreciate receiving a detailed CV from all our Volunteers to be able to map our Knowledge and Skills database for potential future assignments.
We await your responses. We would much appreciate your response by within one week at the latest addressed to Noha Hatata: [email protected]
NM is a young NGO based in Egypt with around 30% of its members based in the US. Please visit our web site nahdetmasr.org . If you have any queries about NM or EED please feel free to contact some of our US-based members Ayman Ismail: [email protected] Shareef Batata: [email protected] or Sherif Ismail: [email protected]
Thanks and best regards,
Noha Hatata.

Does anyone know of generalized organizations/services for Egyptian expatriates not necessarily related to I.T such as the one mentioned in this topic? Any related links where you can get in touch with other Egyptian expatriates?
