To All Knicks Haters
Ya'll can keep hatin' on the Knicks, cuz if ya'll thought tru Knicks fans actually expected a miracle turnaround at the beginning of the season then you're just foolin' yourselves. Historically, (aside from the ready-made championship contender Detroit Pistons) Larry Brown needs at least a year before making the team significantly better. His teams by the first year increase their wins by an average of 3 to 4 games, by the second year his teams make the playoffs, and by third year the teams become championship contenders. Larry Brown is getting a feel for the roster and slowly but surely is beginning to build an identity for the Knicks.
It's clear the Knicks have already made huge improvements on their defense. Once Larry Brown understands who his players are and the players understand their roles, the Knicks will begin showing the signs of a team to be reckoned with. By next season, your team will dread to face the Knicks especially at the Garden and come playoff time.
As for Marbury, remember Chauncey Billups was a less talented version of Marbury before Larry Brown. Most likely Marbury's role will change to fit LB's system and he will become a better player for it. If not, he will be shipped out for LB type players. Either way, the Knicks will become a better team (Insha 'Allah).
Where my fellow Knicks fans at?

Right now though, the Knicks are horrible. They don't have Larry Brown type players and perhaps the three best players on their team are Frye, Robinson, and that white boy. They overpaid for average/above average players such as Crawford, James, Curry, Q, the list goes on and on. Isiah Thomas doesn't know what he's doing, the knicks have to get rid of those type of players who clearly don't fit into Larry Brown's system.
the only bright side for the Knick fans this year are the rookies and Larry Brown.
Mr. Hussain - my bad for taking it personal - won't happen again.
Wanaperfectsoul - those early to mid 90's team were some of my most favorite of all time. Those playoff games against the Bulls and Pacers were some of the most entertaining I can remember. I think LB can mold this team into something similar, but honestly none of the current players have the combination of heart and skill that the old school Knicks players had.
Desiknight - I read that rumor as well. It's possible that it may happen - here's to hoping. If KG really does want out of Minny and McHale grants his wish (which I would find shocking), it really depends on if McHale wants to get some talent and younger or wants to clear cap space. I don't think the Knicks can compete with some of the other packages I heard about in terms of talent, but they'd be hard to beat in terms of giving Minny cap space.
Salaam playaz!
As for today, yes, people should give the Knicks time before judging. The Knicks have improved with size and defense, but the void of Allan Houston is felt. I enjoyed watching my boy Houston tear up Kobe back in '03. Remember that? Houston dropped 50+ on a helpless Kobe. As for Marbury, he has to adjust to Larry's style or his already negative reputation will worsen; what a shame!
Salam,
Rudy
And realize the only reason I even created this thread is 'cause I got tired of reading the unwarranted attacks on the Knicks on some of the other threads in this forum. I mean I know the Knicks have sucked, but I do believe they will get better. I liken the attacks to kickin' a man when he is down - and that's just a damn shame. Seriously, what kind of fan would I be if I didn't even try to defend them?
A lot of NYers like Marbury cuz they remember him playing as a youngster in NY during his high school days. I know it's totally irrational, but for some reason Knicks fans including myself like having fellow born and bred NYers on their Knicks teams.
Do you even realize who Isaiah Thomas replaced? He replaced a Scott Layden who's last NY Knicks starting lineup included vastly overpaid players such as Howard Eisley and Shandon Andersen (whom by the way we are still paying even as he was cut). All Scott Layden seemed to do is take players from Utah, overpay them and then stick em on the Knicks. While I don't like most of Isaiah's moves either (like Jerome James to $30mil, or even the gamble on Curry), he is at least trying and it's still much better than what it was. (Detroit, you guys don't realize how good you have it with Joe Dumars - a good GM is so hard to find and that guy is the real deal!) But the only reason I have any optimism at all is in the fact that Larry Brown is our coach.
I loved Allan Houston for what he did for the Knicks when he was healthy. I can't fault him for getting injured and trying to come back.
Stockpicker - you have a point about LB leaving. My hope, and that's all I can really do, is that LB has that nostalgia for being back in NY from where he is originally from and sticks it out. I think he's getting too old to have many years left to coach anyway. Also, I can't fault you for not liking LB. I still can't stand Pat Riley for leaving the Knicks for the Heat back so many years ago. And until the Knicks can become contenders, I hope Detroit wins the finals. IMO, that team is a thing of beauty in terms of unselfishness, hard work, and good work ethic. The Knicks, though they never won in my lifetime, used to be like that and here's to hoping that's what they will return to.
Mr. Hussain - if I distanced myself from a Knicks teams that was down and instead only rooted for them when they were good - there wouldn't be much to separate me from a bandwagon jumper - would there? So I think I'll continue to support them, thanks for the advice anyway.
While I appreciate the fact that some of you may disagree with what I write, please do not write that it is a "load of cr*p" or that it is the "most ignorant thing you have ever read in your life". I feel like some of you are getting personal and I don't want to harbor ill feelings towards fellow muslims.
And I will be making Hajj in January, Insha' Allah - so while I highly doubt I will make dua for the Knicks to become better, I will, Insha 'Allah make dua for all of you and all our muslim brothers and sisters (especially the ones that are suffering).
Salaam and good night!
Flip is notorious for being a stinker in the post-season, while being phenomenal in the regular season. More than 10 games into the season is needed to convince anyone that the Pistons are better off now than last year.
Also, I didn't mean to take anything away from Chauncey Billups with my comparison to Marbury. Chauncey Billups is definitely the better player (he's proved it) and he may be the better player at the end of his career, but Marbury IS more talented. Marbury's skills are ridiculous and he is the type of player who has the ability to take over games. But like I said before, the Knicks WILL get better with or without Marbury. If you let go of your bias, you may realize LB is an excellent coach and will make the Knicks better.
