Too young, for what exactly?
I very recently met a person in Jordan who, unfortunately, thinks the age split between us is too large, 6 years doesn't seem like much too me, but apparently she disagrees. I think it's a cultural thing, arab girls tend to believe the man must be older, rather than vice versa and i have no doubt that if i was 30 and she 24 it wouldn't have been a problem but the roles where reversed (ahh, fate, you tosser).
and this brings my own questions to the table, considering i'm soon to be an american educated physician, this can't be an issue of support, i hate to make it seem as though it's a money issue, but people don't make much in jordan and i would have no trouble supporting a much better lifestyle than she is into, as far as man as protector thing, though i'm 24, i think i'm more than able to do manly protecting when necesarry. I haven't killed a mastodon in a while but i have no doubt that should one wander into my backyard i could take care of it, i am not an idiot, i tend to have good common sense and judgement, and, imnportantly, i have a strong streak of good luck that tends to carry me through the situations when my judgemnt leads me astray.
so when she said "too young" i am left wondering too young for what?
if i was 20, and she 26, it would make more sense. But 24 and well on my way to a career?
when i'd first met her i thought she was younger (25, but i'm very bad at judging age based on looks)
and she thought i was older (29, i guess i should have shaved or something)
it was only after speaking too her the 4th time, the day before i left jordan that i realized she was older,
and it was after i called her from palestine to talk that i told her i was 24, and that was when she told me, sadly, that i was too young.
we where getting on great, we have a lot in common, we talked and i think we had fun together, we have similar, but not exact, interests, and the only problem was apparently the age thing.
so whats the deal with that.
ladies here, would you consider a guy 6 years younger?
if not, why not?
and what possible reason do you all think she has? other than the age? maybe cultural norms??
other than that anything?????

Comments on this journal
and while i am over it, my comments of "american educated physician" wheren't in reference to my ego madam, they where refering to "can you support a family?" type of issues
i don't know when the last time you where in the middles east, or, to be specific, jordan and falasteen, but a major issue that keeps people from getting married is that they just can't afford it.
i was using that as a way to say that that probably wasn't the issue in that case.
I don't pretend that it's only about the money, it's not, but it would be ignorant and blind to pretend that kind of factor does not play a role when people consider potential mates.
and, i've had time to mull this over, and i do sincerely belive it was an age thing, and have come to agree with her opinion. 24 and 30 is a fairly large split. i have not yet met a single person other than me who didn't think ti was way too large a split.
and i've heard some compelling reasons as to why they may be right, and i may be wrong.
so i am over it, though your "kind words" sure did help there H
as Tupac says, I just live in this world, i didn't make it.
this aversion to the age thing is strong across all cultural lines, americans, arabs, indians, Puertoricans, and iranians, muslim christian and athiest. all seem to have the same hang up.
so, whats a fella to do? leave it be, see what happens.
the women in tbhe harems and the concubines where sex toys.
the queen stayed the queen, the wife remained the wife, regardless of her age (ok, not always, but usually)
i wasn't looking for a fling
