RECRUITMENT FOR ANTICIPATED FALL 2006 CLASS
Major Responsibilities:
Operates various computerized communication consoles and associated equipment to receive, assess and relay information from the public to field personnel in a courteous, accurate and expedient manner.
? Operates computerized communication console and associated equipment to receive and relay information clearly and accurately to personnel in the field.
? Reports major or unusual occurrences to supervisor.
? Operates C.P.I.C. to check for requested information and responds to requests for assistance from field personnel.
? Receives incoming calls on the emergency lines, assesses calls and expedites the required action (e.g. police, ambulance or
fire department).
? Receives calls via internal lines and takes the appropriate action.
? Answers calls on the administrative lines and either connects caller to the requested area or provides the caller with the appropriate non-police information.
? Performs typical duties inherent to the job.
Key Qualifications:
? Successful completion of Grade 12 or an equivalent combination of education, experience and training.
? Applicants must successfully complete a testing process, which will consist of typing (30 wpm), memory retention, vocabulary and written communication tests, a hearing test and console simulator test.
? Must have experience with microcomputers.
? Must possess well developed verbal and written communications skills.
? The ability to work well in a stressful environment and possess the ability to multi-task.
? The ability to demonstrate the following competencies during an interview: analytical thinking, listening, understanding and responding, teamwork skills.
? Completion of a recognized Public Safety Communication Course is an asset.
Conditions of Employment:
? Applicants are required to demonstrate on their resume/application that they possess the key qualifications for this position as
stated above to continue in the selection process.
Subject to a probationary period of 2,088 hours or a qualifying period of 2,088 hours.
Eligibility:
? Must not have been convicted of a criminal offence for which a pardon has not been granted.
? Must not have a criminal charge pending before the courts.
? Must be a Canadian Citizen or permanent resident.
? Must be at least 18 years of age and legally eligible to work in Canada.
