"Trouble With Islam Today" review

Has anyone read the book, "The Trouble With Islam Today" by Irshad Manji ? It's raising a lot of controversy, but it has some good points. Does anyone have an opinion?

Assalamu Alaikum,

I was about to get her book last year, but after I heard her arguments on the radio and read her articles, I dropped the idea and moved on. She does bring up some valid problems that exist within Muslims today in terms of their unislamic cultural baggages and all what comes with it, but really what's new! We all know that
Muslims today in general mix culture with religion to an unreasonnable extent.. and we do need a revival in our thinking and in our behavior, a revival to original Islam.. not to change Islam.

However she extends her arguments to attack Islam, sometimes directly and sometimes subliminally.. She does create a halo around her because of her eloquence in speaking, however her arguments are very far from being scholarly to say the least and she really does not differ much from the orientalists that write against Islam today. So she really does not bring anything new except for the fact that she is a pronounced lesbian that is trying to find acceptance in a traditional community and she is subliminally accusing Islam for the lack of acceptance. In my personal opinion, reading her book is a waste of time, and is a financial support and encouragement to her which should be discouraged.
