turkey is already enjoying tremendous sway in global affairs (frgn policy and business). angela merkel may oppose full memebrship but thats no biggie as the vast turkish population in germany cant be ignored.

When chirac steps out and is succeeded by sarkozy, the French OUI will come and help. i say they will join in abt 10 yrs.

in the meatime, the turks can afford to say NO to the US military bases and are still needed by the US, Asia, China etc
