I agree with rommi about scrubs coz it does the most realistic about the what really happens...but of course every show needs the drama too...but I also like Grey's coz it is a bit of a mix of them all....but not at all like Scrubs coz it's not realistic as much...but it's not bad..:)

Personally,I'd prefer the" ER "series
It ,actually,shows up to us the real life struggle and what's going on around us.What's more,it is interesting , full of passion and real emotions.
if I'm under stressed & feel in need of some entertainment,I'd rather prefer" Scrubs".

House - started getting really into it about 2 yrs ago. I loved the case-based episodes and thought the imagery/technological effects when explaining pathophys was awesome (e.g. ipecac leading to cardiotoxicity, thromboses, etc). Then theres the whole issue with house always benig completely unethical but deep down always doing what was best for the pt. got completely hooked until the drama part got really dumb with house and cameron, and house being all unethical just got old. i still watch it, but then grey's anatomy started getting more hype and i totally switched over :)

Greys Anatomy. Im addicted. i didnt know abt it cuz i didnt have a tv for awhile -- i went and got the dvd and im hooked.

ummm house -- have no clue. perhaps I should check it out.

I adore the show HOUSE!

Scrubs is hilarious...Grey's is entertaining...and I guess ER is for the folks who started to watch these themed shows...I used to be a big fan of ER...now I watch it if there is nothing on....

....anyone remember Trapper John M.D.?

I actually asked around about these shows. It was so interesting to note that some docs actually watch all these shows over here. During my MedEVAC rotation, I actually flew around to different parts of Iraq. At one of bases that is so remote, I met this one doc who asks her husband to burn ER shows on CD. He mails those to her so she would not be that lost in the series. I was really surprised.

I am meeting our group today to watch one of the shows. Apparently some huddle in our MWR room to watch a show altogether.

Next time, I will be able to participate better on your journal. Thanks for starting this.

greys tonight was it's usual great show. it's not all about romance/ or explicit relationship stuff.

was so sweet and sad with the dying mother-daughter interaction where mom advises her daughter to have a child and just care for it's happiness. and to not be sad for too long (who cannot be sad for too long after their parent dies) :( her advice was so sweet though

meredith's mom/dad - also touching, and all those nice things george said about her

and all those nice things the attg said about george-- good that someone appreciates him.

but weird is the whole izzy/patient relationship.
any grey's watchers here know what i'm talking about? LOL.

sidewinder: i don't know house. but scrubs is more the silly side of residents in training. grey's has more drama and relationships amongst medical staff. ER: high power emergency room cases in a county hospital in chicago, so they see more 'unique' cases; good pace and intensity of cases.

I never had the interest in all these shows, but I am now planning to start watching a few. Satellite TV in Iraq on our bases is not a readily available unless you have the rank (and then they provide you with one), but it must be really fun watching these show reading the comments.

Humanitarian, what is the real differnce in all these shows? I know they are all related to the medical world, but anything in particular that makes them unique/different?

Oh by the way, I wanted to tell you. The Grey's episode with the people and the pole jammed into them. The Learning Channel had this show about true stories from the ER or something like that and it's ER docs and some of their cases that are bizarre or amazing. There was a story of a car accident (car hit truck carrying rods/poles something like that) and the car passengers had a pole that went through the chest of one into the leg of another. So I think that's where they got the inspiration for the episode. In the real story both survived.

hey funique: stay tuned for thoughts from the next greys' tomorrow. and add any that u come along with along the way. i hadn't seen the first episode. a friend of mine got me into it when the season was mid way through, and then they did a recap in the middle which was helpful to get up to speed. don't watch scrubs; sometimes the humor just seems ridiculous to me, guess cuz i can't relate to that practice of medicine in my past training and b/c it's soo exaggerated. but i'm sure it helps many pple laugh at things.

I think it's a toss up between Scrubs and Grey's Anatomy. I love both! See Scrubs is totally comedic but the personalities are such true caricature's of what we've all seen as we've gone through training that it's easy to relate to. Grey's Anatomy is drama, comedy and exaggeration all in one and Dr McDreamy is cute! By the way did anyone watch the first episode ever of Grey's? It was a bit hard to believe that a woman who kept having seizures never got a neuro consult. Anyway I still love the show!

random thoughts from tonight's grey's episode:

- granted, a pole jammed thru 2 pple is just TV

-- two good lines from the episode:

a dying woman leaves a message to pass on to her significant other: 'if love was enough, i'd still be here' something to think about: If love was enough... we have xyz criteria, but once u have love with someone, that may be enough. food for thought.

another line: 'in darkness there is fear and hope.'

Tried, trusted, and true...
it was also the first!

well... not really... I guess you could say MASH, lol... but that depends how far back you want to go :)

And as for the unrealistic part: I dont think scrubs/er/greys are as bad as House. That show becomes ridiculous after a while.
And the precordial blow: its a must have in the medical entertainment arena... makes for some exciting stuff, irrespective of whether it works or not, lol...

And I have seen it used it witnessed arrests, with success, actually :)

speaking of realistic vs unrealistic episodes of these shows: did anyone see the intensely dramatic episode of grey's when they had a bomb in some patient? well in that episode they also used the cardiac 'THUMP' maneuver mentioned in ACLS protocols but not encouraged or medically proven useful. however in that episode when the patient went from his arrhythmia to asystole, derek pulled out the fist and wham, bam and regained a normal heart rate. if only miracles like that were seen in real life! i'm sure it has been seen before but i've never seen the thump used in any of our codes in internal medicine. it was pretty incredible!
