Urdu-Speaking Karachiites

All this talk about Chi-Hydros, has got me thinking...I have rarely met Pakistanis, from Karachi who are Urdu speaking. Most Paki's in Chicago, that I have come across usually speak other languages like Punjabi-Hindko, Pahari,-Potwari,Seraiki,Marwari, Memoni(etc), Sindhi, Balochi, and Pashtu-with ofcourse 300 or so dialects of each. Even though Karachi is in Sindh, we do not speak Sindhi. I'm talking about "Urdu-Speaking Mohajirs-NOT MQM-probaby came from Lucknow or Dilli". Maybe I am having an ABCD moment, but are there any families out there, besides a handful I encountered that are truly Urdu Speaking Karachiites from like North Nazmabad, Defense-where we're from, Malir, Gulberg, and Shah Faisal to name a few.
Just wondering....

Hey Fadi, I didn't know about these stereotypes. And especially the hate war between Urdu speaking and Punjabi speaking. We iz from one country, shouldn't dat be enufff to be cool wid each otha??

I agree DachozeVun...in regards to the fact that Muslim pride in identifying with their ethnic backgrounds as opposed to their unifying faith. Its a shame really, but if you've noticed CHicago is very clique-ky...just go to the masjids...you'll see all the punjabis in a group, the urdu-speakin in one, the Hydrobadis in another, same with arabs...the segregation is unbeleivable...its too bad we tend to alienate ourselves and before you it everyone becomes ethnocentric..whether they realize it or not!

Hyderabad Urdu is the best! However, the Urdu most people speak these days comes in the form of Yaardoo. Yardoo is derived from Urdu but spoken only by Yaars.

Cuisine
Karachi has as varied a cuisine as its people. Burns Road (Lovingly pronounced Bruns Road) is the hot spot for local mughlai style delicacies. Dhoraji is known for its excellent Gola Ganda. Defence and Clifton have a large number of upscale restaurants that generally have fusion or international cuisine. Apart from this there are a multitude of places in the city, each one famous for one thing or the other.

Good food is never too far in Karachi. As long as you keep an open mind you can stumble across the most excellent of meals in the city.
