views about polygamy?


Any one can answer this question ... I would like to know what everyone thinks about polygamy and how its practiced

I believe that this is just as important an Islamic practice as any other. It would be nice if there were a set of village links to websites dealing with polygyny from a positive, Islamic point of view, to counter some of the misinformation. Does anyone have some that they can post?

Sorry to be a stickler for detail, but "polygamy" just means having more than one spouse and can be used for either a man or a woman. The practice of having more than one wife at a time is called "polygyny". I find using the term "polygyny" when referring to Islamic practice prevents confusion. Just for the record, the term "polyandry" refers specifically to a woman having more than one husband.

I think polygamy can be a blessing with the right people in the right circumstances. Or it could be a miserable experience with the wrong people or wrong circumstances. But alhumdooleluh it is permitted - it should not be shunned or degraded or looked down on for those who find it suits them.

If ye fear that ye shall not be able to deal justly with the orphans, Marry women of your choice, two or three of four; but if ye fear that ye shall not be able to deal justly (with them), then only one, or (a captive) that your right hands possess, that will be the more suitable, to prevent you from doing injustice ... Sura An-Nisa (chp 4) verse 3 of the holy quran.

Well dear brother there's the quote from quran so it is in your right to only marry on if you cannot handle more than one.

I could not practice polygamy because I do not think I am able to follow the correct practices.
I cannot treat each wife justly, I cannot drown my love on wife and then do the same to the other in the same way, I cannot Bear to mentally treat each one the same.

Our Beloved was able to, but i feel i could not. Its best then for me to first find one.
