A Vigil to Remember

Haroon Paryani & 50 other drivers murdered in Chicago

When: 2 PM, May 1, 2005
Where: Belmont & Cambridge, Chicago 60657

Three months ago Mr. Haroon Paryani was brutally murdered while trying to earn a living.

Cab drivers not only deserve better fares but fair treatment as well.
Hundreds of cab drivers are abused verbally, tens of them are abused physically and even murdered each year. Chicago?s civic and religious leadership stands with cab drivers of Chicago.

Let?s come together to remember Haroon Paryani.
Let?s help cab drivers develop a voice for themselves.

Subhanallah. There are muslims who are being held in prisons (indefinitely) on suspicion and the killers are being let loose on bail. Its very sad.

Anybody know what happened to the guy who killed Mr. Paryani? The last I knew was he was caught and arrested. Also, I heard that he wasnt charged with a hate crime. Anyone know anything more than this?

Wasay, u r right that these cab drivers deserve respect. When I used to work in downtown, I used to take a cab for Jummuah and sometimes these muslim cabbies wouldnt take my fare and say "please donate to the masjid". Also, some of them are very educated and doing this just cuz they dont have proper work visa (ie student) or cuz they cant find a job. (I think everybody deserves respect though)

I attended his buriyal services as it was in the same cemetry where my brother in law's sister was burried on the same day... it was very sad to hear about him on that day... it seems he was very good man as so much of the community came out to pay restpect to him... I hope cap drives get the respect and safety they deserve.
