Wack Eid Khutbah
Is it me or are most eid khutbahs wack? It's either given by a guy who can't speak english or someone who has no business ever speaking about religion since he clearly knows jack. It's enough to ruin my eid. That's all i know.

This is not a one-off khutbah, though. This is a trend pushed by some in this area, who are trying to propagate such ideas.
I actually disliked the guy that gave a khutbah at the adams eid in lansdowne. He said the main lesson of ramadan is that of patience....i politely disagree since Allah said la'allakum tattaqoon, but hey, patience is also a lesson of ramadan so I didn't shut out all that he was saying..untilllllllllllll he said since we're immigrants and we're facing hardship after plane day much like other minorities faced..such as(this is his list of people): native americans, african americans, catholics, and jews...theeeen "we should follow their example"...yup that's what he said. so I was like 'huh?????' I mean, don't we say ghayri al maghoobi alayhim wa laa ad-daalleen everyday? Then he said we have to take the good values from this country especially from the founding fathers....ummmmmmmmmmm....has anyone ever researched the social behaviour of one benjamin franklin a.k.a. colonial male whore? He had like 30 illegitimate children. Don't we as a ummah have better examples of how to live in non-muslim countries like the u.s.?
Every political move involved religion, and every religious movement involved politricks.
theres only 1 book, 1 message; so understanding is ur key, it is ur flashlight. We dont need to get all wrinkled up over the imams. Ya kidds need 2 put aside these inovations, modern formations, the political strategy, thse ways of thinking. Thats the only way 2 become receptive towards religion. The imams only show themselves the way they were brought up. All those brothers come from different lands and tongues. And every imam trys 2 over show another imam, what a mess.
From grade school islamic studies one of the primary arguments people made in favor of abu bakr being the first caliph was that the prophet had him lead prayers
By that token the entire issue of imams themselves (regardless of their political/sociological leanings) needs to be redone?
They know how to speak to the youth and get them to have a love for their faith and a love for God and his Messenger's sunnah, and the Quran... not just some literal translation that is gonna feed into a ideology of bearded male domination.
Would you be proud to show off your Imam at a school show and tell? Or would you be afraid he'd tell all the little boys and girls they'd go to hellfire for eating skittles that contain haraam gelatin in them? c'mon now...
Our faith reached its pinnacle when Muslims actually used their noggins... we were at the height of civilization and inspired the Renaissance and Enlightenment... now it seems this vengeful, fire & brimstone way of preaching has turned our community into playing a fearful and partially paranoid game of whose doing what and whose wearing what and who was seen with whom and where and oh my god did you see........... etc. you know the game. All to prove who is more pious to the rest of the community who is looking on...
just my two cents... well maybe that was about a nickel...
1) he makes the claim, during a EID khutbah.. that Riba (interest) is the number two sin in Islam behind Shirk... WHAT?
-what about murder? pork? lying, cheating, stealing, adultry?
-he didnt even talk in depth about interest... ok, so we live in a society where interest is prevalent... nothing tangible about how to reconcile the differences, nothing.
2) the imam tell women during a khutbah that they must be obedient to their husbands, and to "take your husbands hand, for he will lead you to jannah"...
-WHAT?
please, we don't live in Riyadh... (i already did that once and it was a BIG mistake)...
I think Muslim101 has a very valid point and a very valid concern... why do we let these "imams" who have no CLUE as to what their audience deals with on a daily basis or what the outside world is really like... why do we allow them to babble on during our khutbah time with topics that are irrelevant and approaches that are alienating our communities?
Maybe this cultural diction can stand in Saudi Arabia... but here I think our community needs more...
WE have to take our own Islam back...
