WARNING - read only if u have completed the book

Sooooo ... what did u think??

again ... if u have not finished the book do not read past this point ....

WELLLLL ... what a shocker with the half blood prince and what an even bigger shock that Dumbledore has been wrong all these years ... I still cant believe that Snape had him fooled but the death has to be enough evidence to suggest that it not an elaborate cover up and snape really is the evil that Harry and co suspected all this time

and .. GINNNNYYYY!!!! popular girl :) .. I like Hermionie and Ron's relationship, its so cute to read ... but there was way to much "snogging" in the book .. Lavender ... and "won won"

But the thing abt the way he has split his soul? how does she dream this stuff up??

Overallll .... I dont know ... it wasnt the best of the lot .. it explained an AWFUL lot and the relationship development between characters was nice to see but .... it was kinda slow with the story i felt.

What did u all think?

Also, about the marrying cousins thing - it's true that if there's a horrible trait in a family, that marrying within the family will perpetuate that trait. She made a point of mentioning that violence was expressed more and more in the Slytherins as they kept on marrying within the family - and at the end it ended up manifesting itself in someone like Vold.

Almond_eyes, I thought the prophecy was made very clear: Harry was chosen because for some reason (maybe chance) Vold. picked him and marked HIM as an equal. If Neville were chosen, then the HP books would be called Neville Longbottom.

So what she's trying to say is basically that the prophecy doesn't really mean anything - but Vold. has made it mean something by trgetting Harry all these years and making him suffer so many losses - thereby creating someone who hates Vold. so much that he's bound to try to kill him. I thought Dumb. explained this pretty well.

Saba - do u think it answered questions about the prophecy? I am still at a loss over the whole thing cos it has never been made clear why Harry and not Neville was "chosen" by He-who-must-not-be-named.

I find that whole prophecy thing a bit wierd to be honest, v. reminicent of King Harold .... wellll, kinda.

Ok and another thing, did u guys notice the oh so subtle reference that marrying cousins leads to deformities ....?

I liked that Harry took Luna to the Christmas party. Not sure if that would happen in the 'Muggle' world.

Agreed with the observation that this was a multiple thread book but I it more simple to follow then any of the others. It tied up a lot of important lose ends, remaing questions especially about the prophecy. And closing down Hogwarts supposedly sets it up even further for a very different kind of story structure in the final installment. Looks like it will be one grand aventure with everyones favorite trio.

The part of Voldeparts past, is most intriguing, its important to know where the enemy is coming from.

Thanks to Rowling for dropping the standard borning first few pages on who Harry and the Dursleys are and half a book just to reach the school and get any insight into the main characters.

RAB could be Regulus Black (Sirius's younger brother)... supposedly killed when he tried to leave the Death Eaters... It should be interesting if there is more of him in the next book... would definitely fill the void left by Dumbledore and Sirius.

please, no stereotyping and bashing men... I am already far too traumatized with the fact that Rowling's only use for Quiddtich was to advance the various love interests of the characters :( !! I don't think I can look at Quiddtich the same ever again!! *: :P

I still don't think Snape is in on it. He and Dumbledore had some kind of agreement.
Any thoughts on the note in the pocket watch?

I'm still in denial about Dumbledore. I think he's going to pull a "Gandalf" on us in the next book.

Trust a man to point out the lack of sporting activity in the book ... we had plenty in book four!!

Did anyone else think Rowling tried to focus on too many things and not focus on anything at all... like you got a bit about the Half-Prince, a bit on Voldemort past, and a bit on Malfoy, there isn't even any interesting Quiddtich matches.

Well Snape had the unbreakable vow... so it was either Snape died for not killing Dumbledore or kill Dumbledore. By killing Dumbledore, Snape can get closer to Voldemort and finally kill him.

I doubt it. I'm soooo happy, I knew Tonks and Lupin would get together when I first read about her in 5! And Flur, rock on, I was so proud of her when she yelled at Mrs. Weasley! What I don't get is why anyone was afraid of Bill becoming a werewolf when it's cureable now? I mean if they were so scared why didn't anyone give him any wolf's bane? Aw, Ginny, that's all I gotta say.

Nooooooo ... not a book for each of them .. that wld be sooooooooo not cool. I just think it wld be totally unrealistic that harry cld save the world and do his NEWTS so she made it so that he will not be at school ... wait did i just say "unrealistic" ... hmmm

you know what i find amazing ... that JKR knew all this when she wrote the Philisophers Stone .. how cld she invent something so intricate???

I liked that in this one Rowling seems to jump right into the story w/out a lot of basic background as done in the other sequels to the first book.

the half blood prince reveal was definatly a surprsing twist.

the relationship pairings though not completly unexpected probably had a lot of readers smiling as well.

Its interesting in the ending. They (supposedly) not returning for a seventh year at Hogwarts--Rowling gives her self room to extend the sieres out! Maybe a book for each of the horcruxes....
