wassa3 balik!

I was at my parents house the other night, and I caught a little bit of the Libyan channel Ramadan shows....there's this show called "wassa3 balik" it's sort of like Candid Camera, but the whole point of the show is to seriopusly push people's buttons and catch their reactions on camera... some of the stunts they pull on people are HILLARIOUS! Have you seen the show? Have you been on the show? (if you're in Libya) Which one was your favourite?

salamulakum Misrateeyah... its pretty cool that your sister was also born in perugia... my whole family was born in perugia (brothers and sisters) and when i read your comment... i was so excited... what part of perugia was your sister born in? how long did your family live there? why did you guys move?... in respect to the city center (quatro di Novermbre)... i actually when back to my old neighborhood and almost everyone still lived exactly where they live when we left (18 years ago) it was really awsome... WAS ANYONE ELSE BORN IN PERUGIA?....

libyanprincess...wassi3 balek is done for this year...they only have it for the first half of ramadan ( i think they have budget issues or something), but it always only plays for 15 days. Now they have this other show called 'Alkhal Ismail' which is pretty funny, they also have this shergawi show that I dont really get, but the actors are esthetically pleasing. My all time favourite is wassi3 balek, it really shows the libyan-ess of people.

f_m...saf, me, my younger brother, and my eldest sister were all born in Italy aswell...me, saf, and my bro were born in Parma (a beautiful city in the north) and my sister was born in Perugia. It is quite a conversation piece, especially with canadians that think i'm fresh of the boat from Libya (most dont even know where that is located), when I tell them I was born in Italy and can speak Italian it adds a whole new dimension to their narrow minded mould that they had moulded me in. Northern Italy is gorgeous...its not very diverse however, so expect a few stares if you're a hijabi...but the scenery and atmosphere are gorgeous.

lool I got it ya shergaweeya. But I think our sense of humor is instilled in all of us. Even the people with the most damm thigeel may be masterminds when it comes to pulling pranks and things like that. I remember my uncle telling us about how he pulled a prank on a masree worker in Libya that was helping build or renovate his house. He said that they pranked him and said that for him to be able to help out with the work he needed to get a liscense to use a 'birwee6a' like those little three wheeled carts they use to carry a bunch of stuff. He said for a week they trained him, made him do a whole bunch of things with the birwee6a and after a week of hard training they gave him a fake ID with his name and told him he was ready to start working on the house. HILARIOUS. They said the masree was so happy that he was showing off with his liscence to the other workers. funny wallahi. I have no isloob in telling stories, so forigve me if you no one gets it. ANYYYYYYYYYWAYYYYYYYY....

arablondoner.....interesting wallahi about the honeymoon destinations. Italy popped in my mind too........after all......I was born in Milano YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY....and yes I love saying that to rub it in people's faces.....yeah baby.......lol But I don't know......we'll see......Italy is beautiful I'm sure, I don't remember much since we left when I was 6 months.....but mama said it was beautiful. I'm also thinking Greece. There's just so much to see in Greece.

your lucky you don't have arabic tv Sftripoli, the whole month of ramathan is dominated by my mom usually watching her shows, and my dad al-jazeera........ As to Libyan sense of humour......yes we can be quite evil, but it is funny your story lool , but I cannot help feeling sorry for the poor guy, but I gotta admit we have a better sense of humour then the rest of the arabic world..............As to the Honeymoon discussion...sorry to lazy to pop to the other journal....its who u are with that counts.........although turkey with its Sophie Catherdra/Mosque is quite amazing, The Bosphorous river with all the beautiful holiday homes are pretty impressive. The Turkish Bath experience when done well is great........me personally have only few requirments a 4 star or 5 star hotel, and somewhere amazing like South America, Alaska seems so pure and clean, Northern Italy near Milano is inpressive, a friend just came from honeymoon holiday there said it was amazing. The town of Bergamo outside Milano with its hilltop village that closes at sunset or so, and its beautiful local church and amazing locally produced meal would hit the spot.

Alright... I don't have Arabic satellite at home, so I guess my comment isn't really topical--but I'm still going to make it.

Does anyone else think that we Libyans have a particularly goofy streak that makes us LOVE pranks, or is it just me? No, seriously?

I see it in my family and I saw it in co-workers when I worked in Libya...and I know I do it all the time. I heard this story about a prank from my former co-workers that cracked me up (and, yes, I'm easily amused in some ways):

The new employee was introduced to his co-workers with whom he shared an office. He was the fourth addition to this particular department. The others of course greeted him graciously when introduced by the supervisor, and then returned to work. When one office mate left, the other two quickly warned the new employee of the one that left, saying he was just a little strange and to not worry too much about him.

Later, as he was leaving for a break, one co-worker said good bye and softly mentioned something about 'khud balek.' And then the other left, slamming the door shut behind him.

Of course, the new guy looks up at the only other person left in the office. As he looks over in the man's directions, he's met with a dead solid stare, eye to eye. So he looks away--he goes back to doing his work. Then he gets curious and looks up again only to find the man STILL staring at him. No flinch, no nothing--just staring. Goes back to work, looks around, looks up at the co-worker... STILL STARING!

At this point, the new guy's kind of freaked out. He wants to leave, doesn't know how, is scrambling a little. And still the man is staring at him with a completely blank expression on his face.

Eventually, the poor guy ran out of the office and ran into his missing office mates who pretended to have no idea of what just went down...untill they could no longer hold their laughter in!

I obviously did NOT participate in this particular stunt, but I did initiate and participate in many others... I know they run deep in my family. Anyone else got similar experiences?

lol. My dad watches the Libyan Channel 24/7. I'll ask him about ti. But I think my family is more into that other khaleejee show, the candid camera one and the stunts they pull on actors. Its called 'Sadow'...or somethin' like that. Man this year I'm not into Arabian shows.....baba is hogging the tv like never before...grrr.
