my intial feeling about this whole thing was it was a complete blunder/wrong/inhumane etc...while i still hold some of those thoughts.....i cant help but think about the 5/8 shots...if they shot him once he could still set of the bomb (ok yeh so there wasnt a bomb - but im assuming they went on the belief that there was one)...they were given the power to use their weapons and it was a wrong decision...it was a mistake....but what im noting now is that there is a completly new level of sympathy just coz he was brazilian!!! if he was an apna and shot "wrongly" it would invoke a totally different reaction! god - i am scared for asian looking men even without rucksacks they are a target......and the worst worst thing is there is no recourse....the family will probably get soem compensation 5 years down the line after loads of paperwork/lobbying etc but why do they have to go through all that trauma when the police have admitted it was a mistake. There is absolutely no good to come out of this one at all.....another sad consquence of the bombings....wot next? any one of us could be a target and i hate the fact that im in and out of London always.....on paranoia/bomb/rucksack terrrorist alert.....

Emma_K, my personality! My attitude! My problem! Even the solving of it should perhaps be left to me? Not such an unreasonable request eh?

Satedsoul - CHILL OUT! Damn, no need to be so rude! You took a great discussion and turned it into something personal. There's no need for eyerolling and accusing me of being, "ostensibly virtuous." What I meant in my post, which was probably obvious to everyone else, is that there's probably no need to wish mental agony on the police since Allah probably has an even greater punishment in mind for them! It wasn't an attack against you because I was practically AGREEING WITH YOU but just taking it to another level! Don't be so quick to assume and judge and learn how to discuss and debate intelligently!

Satedsoul, u should learn some manners and get an attitude transplant while your at it. Everyone is entitled to their opinions. The fact is police were trying to do their job. It was an accident, also bare in mind it was the guys time to die, Allah wil punish those at fault which was the point Yumna was making. There is nothing wrong with being gracious, but there is something very wrong with being rude.

And may God guide me, 'cos I need it. *pre-empt*

Yumna.... lets not try to be gracious enough for everyone. Try keeping it to gracious enough for yourself... and let others do what they want, eh? Lets? *eye role* Also, I kinda think a little mental agony is easy going ... considering the fact that his family will be reeling from the effects of this forever. *peace out* I'm a pacifist... I coulda said an eye for an eye... which is the creed of most people around here. Of course mass generalisation... but I get peeved off at people who are ostensibly virtuous. Pet hate. Forgive me, after all, it should come easy to you... you're forgiving.... and God is most Just.

T-shirts??? We should all start wearing Brazillian T-shirts....as a mark of respect for the guy who was wrongly killed by the police and to point out it could be a shoot to kill policy now for everyone/anyone.

I havent read that article, but I'm sure he was probably running since the police were in plain clothes and thought it was a group of thugs after him. Even if they announced who they were, he probably didn't even hear it since he was running for his life.
As for wishing eternal mental agony on the police...I can understand how tempting that it since what they did was nothing less than inhumane; however, let's try not to wish bad on anyone - let Allah take care of it. Nobody is more just than Him.

This recent shooting of a tourist is scary. While I often wonder why people do things like run from the police, the more I read about this story and the previous shooting, even despite the heightened context, the more disturbing it becomes.

On somewhat a tangent, I found this article, "After London, Tough Questions for Muslims" by Mona Eltahawy www.washingtonpost.com to strike a chord.

Well its going to be forgotten about soon and things are going to go back to focusing on 7/7 and issues against muslims and islam.

By the way, anyone know whats going to happen to the police officers that shot him?

The problem with re-evaluation of training is that its going to cost taxpayers more! They should know, its common sense, that they could have taken him down by just shooting him in the leg and attempt an arrest if they were that dumb not to notice that he was a tourist!

To add insult to injury the police apologised..... I mean come off it.... surely the least they could promise is re-evaluation of training, further address on how the police would approach another situation like this one, something concrete please! Pah. My heart brakes for him, and especially for those who he has left behind. God bless him and his family & friends. My sis and I were wishing mental agony for eternity on the guys who shot him. I thought that was quite a good equaliser, no? I have no respect for the bombers... nor those who see it fit to shoot a dead man four times over... without having even an element of justification for it.

Thats a biggest blunder British Police can do. What a shame! Guess they have poor judgment of analysis n shooting an innocent Brazilian Guy.

If police wanted to shoot, they could have shot on his torso and perhaps question him.

I always thought that u never shoot a person like that, unless he/she causing great insecurity to a high degree to the surrounding.

My greatest depth of condolence and prayers remains with the victim family.

These police must be prosecuted against United Nations Geneva Convections of Human Rights.

This is SO HORRIBLE! This is a grave injustice to humanity! Since when do you shoot someone who you already have apprehended 5 times in the head and torso? My prayers go out to him and his family. The police in this situation acted no less barbaric than the suicide bombers themselves!
