so if the khotobah is big, then how the wedding suppose to be?

this is just my opinion and not necessary a fact.

when spend too much money and accessories on engagement party, wedding, house, furniture, jewelries, .. and so on. both partner (or the one who has spend money the most) will have High expectations of what the other partner can do for return.

>>>And if it is about the possability of breaking up...r u kidding me? who goes into a relationship already perceiving they are going to break up and because of that, keeps the khotoba on the down low? Anyway, when I said yes and accepted the proposal, I knew that was the guy for me.

Dear Masraweya,
In many cases where you're introduced to people traditionally (just the person's name, what he does in life, etc.), there isn't much of a chance yet to have formed a full and "informed" picture of the prospective suitor, and these are the situations I am talking about.

At any rate, alf alf mabrook, may Allah bless your new lives together. Barak Allahu lakoma w barek 3alaykoma and gama3 baynakoma fi khayr insha'Allah..

:)

I dont see anything wrong with having a big khotoba if that is what the girl or man wants. I had a pretty big khotoba at a hotel, and walahi I loved it. I dont know too many women who wouldnt love dressing up and looking pretty not just for the wedding but for a khotoba. And if you can afford it, then why not? no harm in it! So you might say this now, you just want something simple, but seriously when else can you celebrate like this? and for what else? Take advantage of the special time and have FUN!!! It comes only once in a lifetime!
And if it is about the possability of breaking up...r u kidding me? who goes into a relationship already perceiving they are going to break up and because of that, keeps the khotoba on the down low? Anyway, when I said yes and accepted the proposal, I knew that was the guy for me. And yep I celebrated it with a huge khotoba and got all dressed up and everything. It was great. one difference might be though that I did have a katb ketab...but even before we decided to do it, we still were planning on a big khotoba. Anyway, thats just my opinon.

>>>why in Egypt they make khotoba look like a fara7.

I dislike this very much too...a khotooba is just a "promise" towards marriage...that could be broken if the getting to know process highlights differences in thinking/ways/goals....so why make this wholeeee big deallll where many things happen that are not islamically allowed until the katb-kitab...such as holding hands...dancing together, etc.

Also, the prophet (pbuh) said, to "asero al-khotba, and a3leno el neka7"...(keep the khotooba on the down-low, and announce the marriage)...to give couples the freedom to go through the getting to know process, without the pressure to continue if differences arise. Imagine if a person met many wrong people in their quest for marriage, and they kept on announcing it every time???????? You then get a bad reputation for breaking up several engagements...

....

I found out though that having a fara7-like khotooba is very economical for Egyptians today...where you don't get to spend as much for a fara7 (only have a dinner/pictures for the fara7 with the dress)...and you use the money for the trip/household needs..

>>And I wasn?t aware that if someone gives u a compliment regarding ur 'strong faith? ?that ur to keep ur guards up. hmm but i guess ya learn something new everyday
----------
My dear Caramella, thank you for your very kind compliment...my response however was more about my discomfort with handling the responsibility of being called a good Muslim - which only Allah knows, for you could be better than me in His scale - than about rejecting a compliment. I hope I was able to clarify..

>>if i may ask, what sort of music r u talking bout?
----

Certainly not the type that involves 7akeem or 3amr Diyab. There is very nice elevator music masalan, lol ;)

Seriously speaking, there is innocent, non-provocative, famous wedding songs in our culture that does not cause the bride to be the hired ra2asa of the wedding :)...there is islamic monsheds as was mentioned earlier that also provide innocent, non-ra2asny-ya-gada3-type-music...a nd many other alternatives...

morsy good you bring this subject. why in Egypt they make khotoba look like a fara7.
and as Mohammaddadly said. we suppose to keep it simple.

i went to that khotoba once, they actually made the pride dance Baladi .. and girls jump in the middle dancing baladi.. and it was just a mess.

I had my khotoba in Egypt. Here are some hints:

1) Have your mom or dad next to you as ppl come up to congratulate (especially if you invite 300 people and you not even know 1/2)

2) Have a talk with the DJ and make it clear that you don't want to be put on the spot and sing in front of ppl (especially if you don't know the song and your voice sucks).

3) Don't have a slow dance segment ( I consider myself a confident person, but yet i felt awkward slow dancing in front of masses)

4) And remember, for the zafa, the bride sits on the passenger side and the groom on the driver side. And not the opposite..

Note: With all due respect I have no respect for a couple that hire a belly dancer in their wedding (That doesn?t make sense to pay respect while not respecting?)

i would also go for a limited wedding party. in fact, i don't believe in spending much money on the wedding ceremony, coz there are other venues that are worth of that money, e.g. a better honeymoon journey, improving the apartment, ... the "average" wedding party in egypt now costs 15-20K, so speding that much money on just one night!! the whole point of the wedding party is to express happiness, which can be done through a simple limited party instead.

and as for the belly dancer, i won't definitely get one, and there many decent alternatives e.g. there are many islamic bands now in egypt and in the US that can do the job. and i totally agree with the saying that the couples shouldnt start their new life together with doing haram deeds, so that God will bless their marriage.

shohob: i think i may ban u also from my wedding if u plan on makine me dance :) as i am not into any kind of dancing, in fact when i go to weddings, i usually sit most of the time :)

u know what's more fun than ra2asa. bring 2 guys to dance like ra2asa. it's really better than bringing ra2asa into the wedding.

i went to that wedding and there were brother twins who dance really good, everyone admired their dance.

We all have our lines and comfort levels and it might not even have to do anything with being relegious or not. Someone wants a ra2asa, some one wants a band, some no band or music but anasheed, some no wedding at all, as long as both partners are happy, that is all that matters.

Muslima about having the garden wedding, let me recommend a beautiful place in Alexandria (if you are from there ) it is Salamlek, but the outside hall. OMG it is absoloutly beautiful, you would seriously feel like a princess. They have lights on the trees, a nice gate thing with flowers and light, it is just amazing! I really wanted to have my wedding there but we are having it in the summer, and you know humidity and egyptian girls hair dont work well together. I just couldnt do that to all my guests hehe

I considered the whole ra2asa thing, my cousin this summer had some famous new one...cant think of her name, but anyway, if she danced balady I would say hey, sure, I want her at my wedding, it is fun and entertaining to watch, but she was only being provacotive, wearing tight clothes, standing in one spot and bending over alot. I thought it was taudry not entertainment. So if i can find an actualy ra2asa I would have one, other wise, I am not bringing a stripper to my own wedding! yuck!

Muslima.
i have no problem for everyone to look, i know it's annoying lol but who care, it's my and my spouse day. i believe a person should be brave and confident at that day.

however the embarrassing part is if i fall ; p that will make my day :)

i really believe we should focuse more on the inside marriage than the outside marriage (the appearance)

caramala
why should i keep each gender separate, they can all be together but guys don't touch the girls. all of them dance together, clip their hands .not necessary "baladi" dance. i believe music in that day it's ok.

but ra2asa and everyone touch each other we mesh 3aref eah, i think this is too much and not comfortable.

and who said that 'el 3arees' will look at the other girls. in that day the 3arees is very busy thinking of what he suppose to do :) , his mind is in another world. he just want to get it over with ; p
and i am thinking of not inviting my cosines, because they will make me dance like a 'ra2asa' either i like or not ;P
