to answer your question in the JE, we should do more of the reach out to the community building. MSAs, ISNA, CHAIR and even nonrelgs ARAB and DESI organisatiosn cen set upo fund raisers for causes such as Multiple Sclerosis, breast cancer (sponsor walks etc). muslim women could also create orgnztns such as Muslim Women Organisations to assert their independence and overcome stereotypes on women and islam in the mainstrean consciousness. There should also be more partciaption in orgs such as center of interfaith understnading of which the author is a a member.

The article says: "Muslim Students' Associations on college campuses are growing rapidly as a barrier for Muslims who prefer not to interact socially with non-Muslims". that is NOT TRUE. MSAs have been growing rapidly for years and their post Sep11 surge has been largely due to american and nonamerican muslim students' willingness to ASSERT their religious identity INSTEAD of "as a barrier for muslims who prefer not to interact socially with non-Muslims". this article was written for RAND, which is bascially the research and think tank organisation for entities such as the Pentagon. thus, it's a mostly a "how to" guide for nonmuslims rather than the other way round.
