What did you just say???

So I've thought about how I can win the hearts of my fellow Little Libyan villagers (*hint* I should win Saffulia's new contest *hint*) and came up with the following:

You are in the store shopping with your family. Amid the English only conversations of the surrounding people, your family speaks English mixed with Arabic mixed with words only your family understands :). And then you say something that causes the lady reaching for something in the aisle next to you to look up (fill in the blanks with whatever you generally shop for):

Sis: So which kind of _____ do you want?

You: The one m3 ____ wa ____.

Sis: Hatha or that one?

You: No the one GOODAMMIK...

And that is when the white girl looks at you with that Ohmigosh-my-kids-are-with-me-and-he aring-you-talk-that-trash stare because to her you just said:

"Goddammit!"

Come on, you know it happens to you, too! SO what phrases do you say that afford you second glances and mean utterances?

OMG...one time my sis and mama were at The Bay. They were talking about something in Libyan and the cashier lady was an Asian lady. After they were done talking she asked them straight up if they were from Libya!! And my mom and sister told her yeah and asked her how she knew. And then she told them in LIBYAN that she was born and raised in Libya!!!!! I think she was filipino. Bas ya, what you said saffulia...you have to be very careful.

Here's something else that happened ...my sister and I were on the bus once, and there was this lady that looked totally white...we decided to talk about her in Arabic (Libyan) thinking she wouldn't understand...and when we were done talking, she let us know that she understood everything we said! So beware of using Arabic when you think no one there understands.

Sometimes I wish I spoke Chinese...cuz those people are soooo obvious when they talk about you, they're looking straight at you and talking in their language....sometimes I just nod, just to let them think I'm understanding! haha

Lol I like this post....this has has happened in a non-arabic speaking setting:

You: Ummi can we go _______-
Ummi: La....
You: Leish laa?
Ummi: Hikki!

Everyone looks in the room and wonders what your mom is talking about "hikki!".
