What do you do when....

What do you do when you see Libyans you don't know in public?

-Do you yell out BAZEEN, and watch their reaction?
-Do you follow them and listen in on their conversation?
-Do you start up a conversation with them and let them know you're Libyan too?
-Do you turn around and walk in the opposite direction as fast as you can?

Waiting for replies!

leebeeya, its so funny. they automatically assume responsibility like its instantly their right and their turf. i have to admit, its kind of cozy and warm to a certain extent - especially living out here where people dont put as much emphasis on family or the community. but at the same time - i woulda hit 3amoo up with a 'shin dakhlik feeya?'.... beekaffee with brothers and a father to report to... mish nagisna some random khleefa to be all up in our biz-niss. lol....

yeah, there have been a-plenty of good times for this and mostly with my friend mis :).... most recent was at work, when i was checking in a whole gang of them at the airport.... i broke it that i was libyan, and i think they were completely shocked to find out i wasn't hiding the fact that i am muqeeema and i made it fully clear that i have liktaab ilazrig. lol. pretty funny. otherwise, we.. or sorry, i do, the usual "ya 3weeesha, ilkarsha waaatya lee 7asheee il 3usban walla tibi ilghasil?"..... lol honestly, i usually feel it out, if they look TOTALLY shady and like complete mujurmeeen who stare stare and stare some more, im rude... and maximize the fagsa opportunity to entertain myself. if they seem nice - will discuss 3asding 3aseeda or i7sheeing 3usban as a way of ice breaking..... no positive run ins yet. although rihab - i love your stories :) super cute. :) and i must admit, it instantly makes me tingle when i hear the lahja.....

hmm i'm usually too shy to approach anyone...bas if im with my good friend sakeeena she will let it known we're libyan by doing the bazeen thing ;) or 3usban. If they're staring the way our freshly arrived libyan brethren usually do, we will also say "fagsah inshaAllah". Oh and I totally would break my ear (ukser widnee) and listen to what they are talking about.

I work as a cashier at a department store!! One time these two older men come with children's clothing that they wanna buy, and subhanallah, I had a feeling they were libyan. They just looked it. And then one of them threw the clothes on the counter and said 'Khalseenee ya 7ajja'...ANd I was like 'SHINOOOO???'. And he was shocked and said where are you from? And I was like LIBYA. And then he was calling his friend and was telling him that I"m their libyan sister and he apoligized for saying 'Khalseenee ya 7ajja'. I think he was embarased....anyway....I ran into other Older Libyan men at the same place....one of them was amazed, he was 'gasgasing' and wanted to eehadriz, he seemed bored ya haram, but my manager had to tell him we were closing etc. It was funny. When he was talking to me I found out that he knew my dad's first cousin in Derna, Libya!!!. That was insance, we are all connected!

That's too cool, Leebeeya! Search for those number!!! :P Maybe you'll find them somewhere...

As for me, I never run into Libyans by accident...there are just too few here. But I'd definitely run up to talk (not quite sure about the "Bazeen" yell, but I'm wierd like that so you never can tell).

Oh, and Leebeeya, my best friend met you at Susan's wedding and said you were super nice and one of the most friendly people there. She's got a pic of her and you and Susan at the henna. She isn't Libyan and didn't know a lot of people out there so she was relieved to meet some really cool people You were one (although since she is my friends with me, Susan, and other Libyans, she should have known :) ).
