What does Spielberg want?

I'm still not sure as of what Steven Spielberg is aiming at with 'Munich'. But I'm curious to find out. I haven't seen the movie yet, only read a couple of reviews. Here's one:
www.dailytimes.com.pk

This part was interesting:

Spielberg, explaining why he invented a scene in which a Palestinian lectures Avner on the justice of his people?s cause, told TIME magazine that without that scene he ?would have been making a Charles Bronson movie - good guys vs. bad guys and Jews killing Arabs without any context. And I was never going to make that picture.?

I'll probably have to wait until I see it but was wondering if anyone has seen it or is planning on seeing it soon?

as enlightning as mike moore can has been, you'll NEVER EVER see him touch the israeli-palestinian question OR the roleof influencing hand of the jewish lobby...if he did, he would be accused of antisemitism. only the jwsh spielberg could do that in his own "indirect" way while getting away with such label.

Brainvslove : In the same sentance that the palastenian person was talking about the plight of his people he said basically that they want to kick the jews out. I still think He showed the palastenians in a negative light, but at least he (Spielberg) aknowledged they are humans (Indirectly).

Hanyhsn in fahernhite 9/11 Micheal Moore attacked a corrupt administration but he felt he represented a large portion of the american people.
In Munich I felt that Spielberg did the same exactly but the Israeli Version of how to deal with terrorist.

excerpts from a well respected film critic:

"Mr. Spielberg goes out of his way to endorse the Palestinians' right to a homeland of their own. (I say "out of his way" only because the sentiment is voiced most forcefully in a scene, as clumsily staged as it is didactic, that stops the hurtling narrative in its tracks.) "

"Munich" has been attacked as an anti-Israel tract that plays fast and loose with the facts. Since I'm not a historian, I'll leave final judgments of those facts to others, but I don't think the anti-Israel charge sticks. In another of those oddly earnest, slightly fatuous preachments that intrude on the action, a cosmopolitan if shadowy French informant, played with elegant complexity by the great Michael Lonsdale, tells Avner, "The world has been rough with you and your tribe, so it's fair to play rough too." And the film is punctuated by frequent flashbacks to Munich, just in case we need reminders of how horrific Black September's terrorist act really was."

and last but NOT LEAST

"Clearly he has sought to expand the use of his prestige and artistic powers beyond his long-standing support of Jewish and Israeli causes by emphasizing the humanity of Israel's enemies."

Thanks Ammoori.

Quite interesting perspectives that you described the movie from. But what did you mean by the Fahrenheit 9/11 comment? Do you mean they attacked the Israeli government/Moussad/army but not the people and not the cause itself?

I watched it last night and thats my opinion /review:

1- This movie might be called even handed or ballanced. But who really calls it like that!! I would think that Jews, and most people that have superficial knowledge of the conflict will claim that.

2- Thats a movie of what I call the intellectually smart but biased movies. Why I say that because u still think after the movie ends that one of the sides are the good guys and the other as the less good guy OR one side is the bad guy and the other side is the worse bad guy!!

3- If I was an alien and came out of space and saw that movie as my only source to understanding the conflict I will have the following question:
WHY ARE THE PALASTENIANS SO HATFUL? WHY DON'T LIVE IN PEACE WITH ISRAELIE'S?

Offcourse the dialouge in the movie partially explain that!! but not good enough in my standards.

4- If I saw that movie and didn't know who did it before, I would assume that Israeli left! or some veteran Israeli army or Mossad people where involved in that movie to protest the right wing politics in their country.
A.k. this is the Israeli Fahrehite 9/11.

5- Am I the only one, but didn't spielberg imply that he thinks that Pali's are animals (Avnar said it in the movie most important scene).

6- I think Spielberg is trying to build a bridge between Israeli's and americans, and tell both that they have the same values and they share the same way of life, so I feel this movie is more about the jews closing their ranks with US that seperating the arabs further from the US ( in hindsight both are the same)
