What is an Egyptian/arab/muslim life worth?
Today I finally got confirmation of the value that the world at large places on egyptian life, $0.00 . Dr. Ihab al-Sherif, the egyptian embassador to Iraq, the highest ranking foreign official to be captured in Iraq since the start of the war was murdered today. I will not comment (here) on the crime, and perputrators of this crime, except to say - READ THIS VERSE (Al-Ma'idah 5:32), it seems extremely clear to me (I am assuming it was actually muslims that did this). I will however comment on the fact that for the last two days since this highest ranking official in Iraq to be taken hostage, the news coverage has been almost non-existant, is the life of this egyptian (regardless of whether he is an ambassador or not) worth soo much less to the world then an Italian journalist, a japanese engineer, or a filipino worker?? I think even Al-Azhar got involveved with the Italian journalist?? Now I understand that there were larger, equally henous crimes committed in London today, but it is almost depressing the lack of coverage that this man got.
Allah yirhamuu, and may Allah help his family get through this.

All Yerham Mr. Al-Shereef, and I hope that Inshaa Allah, God will take care of his family and of those who are mourning his death- almost all of us here.
Mr. Al-Shereef's death has caused many feelings, thoughts, and emotions to alter in these past couple of days.
This is mainly because as mentioned above, his murder hasn't received enough attention by either the news, or most importantly by THE EGYPTIAN GOVERNMENT! (The government actually has an excuse for it not to be blamed for his death!!!)
Yeah, Mr. Mubarak- Egypt's President, doesn't care about Mr. Al-Shereef or any others like him- mainly because he can replace him or others like him quite easily. HE SIMPLY DOES NOT CARE! This really just proves even more the suspicion that many, including myself, have of him regarding his position as executive.
Miraculously, what happened to Mr. Al-Shereef just proves even more that the, OH SO GREAT president mubarak is not in office at all for the people, but only for his own personal gain. Instead of being in office to help the economy, people, etc, he's there for the 10 % 3emoola he's getting from all the foreign aid given to Egypt by the United States.
It's sad to see that America and every other country out there is concerned about its citizens being held hostage, let alone their embassadors, while Egypt's president plainly, DOES NOT GIVE A CR@P about either, his citizens or embassadors!
WHAT A SHAME!!!
So Morsy, if someone asks you a question, not matter how ignorant it might sound, all you can do is reply with patience and knowledge and inform them of the truth!!
Ihab El Sherif, Allah yerhamo is getting ALOT of coverage here in Egypt- and news of his death is on BBC, Jazeera.....and they raised it to the Security Council. Almost of 1/3 of Al Ahram is about him today. In addition, the Ministry has cut down it's staff in Iraq. What is the sort of coverage you think would be appropriate? Sheikh El Azhar and Baba Shenouda have both commented too.
MissMimi
I think with regards to the events looking at it from a media perspective- obviously the London story involves more people, its more of a random nature (so it does capture the "fear factor")... with the Egyptian diplomat, or the Bahraini one- while certainly its not a good thing... we've become used to someone being kidnapped- some kind of threat to kill him/her... then they're either killed or released. Unfortunately these Muslims doing this have made it ruitine.
