Salaams Y'all
Just thought I'd say Hi and introduce myself. My name is Naveen too, not to be confused with the creator of this site. Must be that all girls named Naveen rock! ;-) Haha! Anyways...I've been playing instruments since I was in fifth grade. Started out playing the piano - and competed throughout high school in various solo & ensemble shindigs. Then I started playing percussion in band in junior high - Marching band (lead snare). Then in high school I joined our Jazz Band (trap set and vibraphone and other percussion instruments), and Symphonic Band -(various percussion) as well as continued with marching band (snare). I also competed with all three, and alhmadulillah, made it to the All-State Jazz Band playing the vibraphone. I picked up guitar during my freshman year of high school and started a garage band with my friends...although that soon stopped because my parents freaked out. Haha! They thought I would run off and become a rock star, so they refused to buy me a drum set. So we would secretly practice wherever I could get access to a drum set. Lol! More recently, I've gotten into eastern instruments, so I've learned how to play the harmonium and sitar and tabla. But my passion is for the tabla. I saw Zakir Hussain last year! and it was the greatest thing. He came with Ustad Sultan Khan, the renowned sarangi player. I was blown away by both of them. I'd like to know what concerts you guys go to/have been to, and which ones are really good live etc. Any recommendations? I just saw Guster. The drummer was out of control. He was sooo frikkin awesome. Anyways, I'd love to hear from you guys.
Wasalaam
Naveen
