What should I look for in a personal trainer?

I am considering getting a personal trainer to help me to achieve my fitness goals (losing weight and toning up). I have had a couple of PT sessions at my gym, which I found pretty useless and have now approached one of my Spin class instructors (who is very motivating in the class situation). What should I be looking for in a good personal trainer? Can anyone recommend a good personal trainer in the Central London (UK) area?

You forgot to thank TOK, lol. yeah, just try to slowly cut your diet, more treadmill, some biceps, squats, lunges. slowly build up the cardio and youll be good to go. Oh yeah, and I offer beautiful UCL ladies free PT sessions!

a personal trainer is supposed to motivate you and push you harder than you would push yourself-- i figure get someone that has some sort of certification, seems motivated, and seems to know their stuff... also i tend to gravitate towards the trainers that look like they practice what they preach (of course looks can be deceiving and some people are just naturally toned/thin)

i generally try to go to classes that my gym offers b/c i know that the classes make me work harder than I would work by myself--thats the alternative to getting an expensive trainer...

get a best friend with who you can workout with. PTs are $$ and you wont be able to keep one for long because of that.

it is ALWAYS better to workout with someone than alone. you always end up pushing your body harder and farther.

I am unsure if the personal trainers in UK have to be certified or not. First find out what type of certification he/she has? Also ask other clients how they feel about him/her.

The best way is to try one session yourself.

Just make sure your trainer doesn't goof of by telling you to do some exercise while he/she goes to converse with a member of the opposite sex.

You don't need a personal trainer for that. All you need is a treadmill or any other cardio machine, some pushups, some squats, lunges, and various types of ab exercises(crunches, reverse crunches, and side to side oblique crunches).
