New Orleans is the equivalent of a third world country after this hurricane. Everything is a complete mess! Being from the amazing and unique city of New Orleans I am really angry as to what went on and why! Alhamdulillah, my family and I were fortunate enough that we were able to evacuate and have somewhere to go. A lot of people are still struggling to find somewhere to live. This was truly a life-changing event. So many people have died and been displaced. I think many more lives could have been saved if our local and federal government was prepared for such emergency situations. I mean it is possible to avoid a disaster like this one...FUND FOR BIGGER AND BETTER LEVEES!!!

those fools, spending money to build those casinos when that money could have gone to strengthening the levees and sparing so much suffering and loss... they're so reckless and irresponsible. hopefully now they will do the job right. and they need to be truly prepared from now on for a worst case scenario (new orleans being hit directly by a category 4 or 5)

I'm waiting for them to get to the bottom of this shameful mess. we've known for years our city was vulnerable, yet in the end it's not the hurricane but the cheap levees that led to this. I never knew our levees were so inadequate. but they knew all along!! how could they??? and then to make matters worse, they leave the victims to fight and die like rats. it's unbelievable !!

I am sorry to hear that. I hope your family and friends are safe. Many people suffered the aftermath of the storm. However, the authorities are saying now that the death toll may not be as high as expected earlier.

Ofcourse, that is little comfort for the ones who lost their lives and those who lost loved ones, not to mention their homes and possessions.
