Whats the Etiquette here??
What?s the Etiquette here?
I?d like some advice on break-off etiquette. Note, I am not talking about break-up etiquette which is a totally different question. Here?s the situation:
Somebody on the website piques your interest and you contact her. Some emails go back and forth with details about yourselves and you?re set to proceed either with a phone conversation or meeting up at a coffee shop.
So you meet up (or have the phone conversation) and one of 3 scenarios occur:
1) You hit it off like a house on fire and can?t wait to see each other again. (no advice needed here)
2) You don?t connect with the other person but to be polite and respectful, you have a pleasant and friendly conversation, but know that you won?t want to see that person again.
3) You have a pleasant and friendly conversation, you don?t really click immediately, but you would like to think about it first. Its difficult (and silly) to make on the spot decisions about things like this. After you say goodbye and how much you enjoyed meeting the other person you go home. You think about it and decide that you don?t want to see the person again.
Now for situations 2 and 3 what do you do?
1) Do you phone the girl up and say that you don?t think you?re compatible.
2) Do you email the girl and say that you don?t think you?re compatible.
3) Do you do nothing at all. No further contact.
Frankly, 3 is the easiest option, but what do woman expect from us under these scenarios.

4) Tell her she's great but you've been put into witness relocation and for her protection you are prohibited from all further contact.
5) Tell her she's nice, but Osama called and has an assignment for you. You'll call if you live through it.
6) You'd hook up if you could, but the family business (goat herding in Paki) is in trouble and you have to go save it.
7) You're being deported. Damn that Bush.
I have met some people that I werent that close to from the beginning, so I didnt really care about them not calling. Usually, I can sense it if the guy seems interested or not in the first meeting and I pick up on those things pretty fast. If I have been talking to someone for a really long time before meeting, I would like them to be upfront and be honest with me, so that way I wouldnt want to lose their friendship at least.
It all just depends on the situation...
Just cause you don't feel the same for someone doesn't mean you should not at least respect their feelings.
I mean think about if the situation were reversed how would you like to be treated?
i was seeing a guy for potential rishta situations...and i honestly didn't know him too well. a few weeks into the whole email/phoone thing, he just called and said that it probably wasn't best to continue this.
it caught me off guard and my first reaction was to squash his head, but i look back on it now and think...that was really decent of him. most guys prefer to leave things loose ended....at least he left no question in my mind that he's not interested.
it's much cooler like that :)
Unfortunately most guys are not mature enough to do that and they disappear.
