What's the saddest melody?

I've been into the 80's Cure. What is the most depressing/melancholy song? I want to make sure I have listened to it.

Reagents, here's the link: www.musicfanclubs.org ,
The website's "lyrics" section actually has references to where some songs originated or what inspired them. It's a good source of info, imo.

Here's a pretty good Cure site. According to this, the lyrics to "Charlotte Sometimes" were indeed inspired by the book. However, having read the thing, I can say that it has little to do with the book aside from a mood or feeling of being in a liminal state akin to disconnected chronologies. www.musicfanclubs.org

"From the Edge of the Deep Green Sea" and "Charlotte Sometimes" are the two Cure tracks that get to me the most and are also two of my very favorite ones.

"I'm sorry... blame infatuation... blame imagination...
I was sure you'd be the one but I was wrong... It seems reality destroys our dreams...Faded red inside a tiny book of old goodbyes"

strange attraction...it's a sad song wrapped in an upbeat tune that deceives the listener into thinking the topic at hand is actually a happy one: it's not.

Yeah Twilight Garden is a hauntingly beautiful song... I dont think many people own the B sides cd and maybe Robert Smith here can explain why were some of these beautiful songs not included in his popular albums.

twilight garden...its very plaintive..'no one will ever take your place...no one will ever take your place'...so much loss in those lines of recalling a past love :(

Untitled - "hopelessly adrift in the eyes of the ghost again down on my knees and my hands in the air again pushing my face in the memory of you again
but i never know if it's real never know how i
wanted to feel never quite said what i wanted
to say to you never quite managed the words to
explain to you never quite knew how to make
them beleivable and now the time has gone
another time undone hopelessly fighting the
devil futility feeling the monster climb deeper
inside of me feeling him gnawing my heart away
hungrily i'll never lose this pain never dream of you again"

Nice selection Coffeefire... I love "A chain of flowers" I wonder why it was never included in one of their popular albums. Looks like u really like the B-Sides & Rarities :)
About La Ment (flexipop)all the lyrics online refer to to the original version... and to be real honest with you I cant even understand a single thing on the Flexipop version lol... but yeah it seems like the lyrics are differnt.

Oh and I agree with Reagents: It's a hard question to answer. There are too many melancholic tracks by this band...And they are all awesome :)

So many! 'How beautiful you are'. His point of realisation as to how shallow she is...It's painful to listen to. 'A chain of flowers' is kind of sad too...So is 'Disintegration' but in a different way...Nowadays I'm hooked on 'Lament' both the normal and flexipop versions. Incidentally does anyone have the lyrics for the flexipop version? They are different to those of 'Lament' and impossible (at least by me) to find on the net!
