WHAT'S WRONG WITH PEOPLE?

Teens in Iowa doused oppossums with lighter fluid and then proceeded to burn them alive. They recorded the disgusting act and sent it to an online humor website. The website employees, in turn, sent the video to PETA. I felt sick to my stomach when I heard about this. What's wrong with people? It's so disheartening and sad to read about the joy that sick individuals take in the pain of a living creature. What's going to happen to these idiots (I wish Naseeb would let me use some more choice words here)? They're probably going to get slaps on their wrists and community service. C'mon people, this is how serial killers get their starts! If these kids can take the life of a living, breathing creature all in the pursuit of a few laughs, what are they going to do the next time they want a thrill? How much longer before they start killing humans?! I can't even begin to explain how upset I am right now.

LOL Tapesh! You spelled it incorrectly; it's "peer," but no big deal. :)
I just feel like we, as a society, aren't doing a good job raising kids. Respect for animals may seem like a small thing to some people but, in my opinion, it is integral to creating a tolerant society. Bold statement, I know, but I truly, truly believe this.
I think that saying "kids will be kids" is a cop out. Let's take responsibility for our kids' behaviors and actions.
:)
Are we, like the only two people left in my village? Where's everyone else, anyway?

you are absolutely right. it is wrong at any age. i wasn't saying it's ok because they're kids. i was just bringing up a point that, there's a possibility it's going to happen anyway. that's all. you can't deny the fact that, again, kids will be kids. and, as you already know that entails a lot of things, including pere pressure. i don't know if i spelled the word 'pere' right or wrong in this context. i'm self-conscious writing to you, because i know you're a professional reader.....;

I think the key to raising children to be compassionate, caring and responsible adults is by teaching them to respect all forms of life, animals included. This sort of cruelty is wrong at any age!

what's someone supposed to do about it though? my cousins would do $h1t like that when we were kids (to frogs in pakistan). their parents would yell at them, but they'd still do it. now they're older and there fine. but...... when my cousins did these things, they were about 8 - 10 years old. i'm not sure how old these kids are that you're talking about, but if they're 14 - 17 then that's a little fucked up. all i'm saying is that kids will be kids. what they do now might not necessarily determine what they'll do in the future.

Yeah, I used to step on spiders when I was little, because it wasn't seen as bad. Now I stop people from doing that. To think that they also have a life like we do, I wouldn't want someone to just kill me. It sucks when people do things to animals, I've seen a few videos where animals are being skinned alive by villagers and dogs shot for fun by some military for target practice, which made me realize how screwed up humans really are. Although, I'll admit I still get angry at mosquitos if they bite me, which usually ends in me smashing them if I get the chance. Although I wouldn't hurt a fly usually.
