where to live in DC?

I will be working around American University (Wisconsin Ave) & am interested in finding a place (one bedroom apartment or a share) close to that area or the metro. Your suggestions are very welcome & thanks in advance.

In Dc i would say stay around Wisconsin ave area cause its much safer area then other parts of Dc and has alot of stuff to do in and around it.
If you are willing to deal with the traffic you can always move to northern Va or MD.
