Why must 6 yr olds tell you EVERYTHING?

First graders can be really cute - the majority of them at least! But there's one thing I really get bothered by...Any single opportunity they get - the children must come up to me and tell me every single detail of what happened to them every second at recess, lunch and before school.

After trying to look interested and amused for about 1.5 months....I just can't fake it any longer.

How do I get kids to stop hounding me to tell me every detail of their lives without hurting their feelings?? Help!

Salaam! I know exactly what you mean - my grade threes also had the need to share every single detail. And, as much as I loved them, there wasn't enough time in the day to hear everyone's stories. What worked for me was designating a "sharing time" (5 mins or so scheduled prior to a natural break such as recess, end of the day, etc. You might want to try it. This way, when one of your cuties comes upto you just bursting to tell you something, you can say something like, "Do you think that you could save your special news for our sharing time....Then our whole class will be able to hear your story!" :) (We all know how much they love the spotlight! ); ) Hope this helps! :)
