Where do people come up with stupidity like this?!! It reminds me of this horrible Indian movie where Juhi Chawli was raped by Anil Kapoor (he was a gundha hired to do it as retaliation for something or the other) and then she goes and sets up house with him. I don't know whether it is plain misogyny or something deeper -such as a primitive way to lay claim to a mate - rape her and she's yours. Or perhaps it is her fault for being attractive enough to warrant this lack of control on the part of the male - hence it must be her fault.

And what's with the whole relative relation that annuls the marriage. If its a stranger on the street, the marriage still carries sanctity and validity. However, if it is a male relation - she's now his? Is it because of purdah that a stranger theoretically has no access to her, or that within the 'tribe' (family) - a display of sexual aggressiveness (like a monkey) supercedes the original husband's claim. So now he must jhuka his head since he is the lesser 'male'?

Ewww...I just saw the father-in-law part....they must be using the justification that once a parent has relations with their new partner - then that person becomes your mother/father hence you can't sleep with them.

The problem with desis is that they take a single line out of context and run with it - using it to justify whatever stupid cockamanie ideas they want to promote.
