baazaar se guzaraa huuN Khariidaar nahiin huuN

I may be in this world but I am not one who desires anything from it
I may be passing through the baazaar but I don?t buy anything from it

is Khaanaa-e-hastii se guzar jaauuNgaa belaus
saayaa huuN faqat naqsh-e-diivaar nahiin huuN

I will pass by this house of existence without leaving a trace
I am but only a shadow .. not a fixed mark on the wall

vo gul huuN KhizaaN ne jise bar_baad kiyaa hai
uljhuuN kisii daaman se main vo Khaar nahiin huuN

I am the flower that autumn has destroyed
I am not the thorn that tangles and snares your clothes
(daaman means so much more then clothes but it needs too much explanation so im just using clothes here)

yaarab mujhe mahafuus rakh us but ke sitam se
main us kii inaayat kaa talab_gaar nahiin huuN

Oh lord (Allah) protect me from the wrath of this stone god

NO.. im so glad your asking ( i still have debates with my uncle about sheres i dont get ) ive translated my favorite sher into English .. it looses nearly all of its beauty but hopefully by reading the English words you?ll get a better feel for the Asian thoughts

one of the most intriguing things i find about our art ie poy-yetry (poetry) is that it reflects the ideals of our culture and civilization which at times is in stark contrast to the western monopoly on like all the media in the world.... for ex. in this poem there's seems to be a rebuking of the material world and what it really is....and this reminds me of alot of islamic fundemental perspectives of the world. In fact I can think of a couple quotes of Hazrat Ali (as) off hand that seem to be the bottom line of what this poem is trying to say. but in today's material world this is not as common of an idea, unless you're an anarchist or an unruly teenager.

well I?ll take my best shot at explain the words to ya, but I am no authority on Urdu , cheeta786 and saeqa seem way more well versed then me, but I?ll take a swing a it:

Vyopar = business

""Yahaan Pyar Hota Hai Vyopar Bankar"' I take this to mean: that "Love" is a hard calcualted business transaction in this world not the pure and selfless act it?s though out to be.

ghayal = worn-out
"Har Ek Jism Ghayal" ever one in this world has their own ?cross? to bear, their bodies exhausted.

Badawaasi ? well Hawas means nerves Badawassi mean un-nerving/ chaotic

parast = worshiper; paraston (plural) worshipers
i.e. Murda Paraston Ki Basti = the land of the dead-worshipers.

this is awesome...but can i get some help for my urdu challened self? What is ghayal? Badawaasi? Vyopar Bankar? and paraston?

kisika hamein aawara kehna koi bada ilzaam nahi...
Duniya wale dilwalo ko aur bahut kuchh kahte hain.
