YOUNG FOSTER CARERS NEEDED BY ISLAMIC FOSTERING SERVICE

The Islamic Fostering Service is an independent agency that works
with Local Authorities to find Muslim homes for Muslim children.

Alhumdulillah, we found two of our most proactive families through
City Circle in 2003 when we had a weekly listing. Both families are
in their late twenties to mid thirties and based in East London.
Our experience has shown that young carers are the most proactive
and flexible in the foster care and support they give to young people
- all that is needed is courage. Currently, the majority of Muslims
coming into care are teenage boys (and to a lesser extent girls)
who are unaccompanied asylum seeking minors. These children from
our experience are not as demanding as perceived - see our factsheet
on www.islamicfostering.com.

Can you make the leap and provide a foster home for such young people?
Often, you will be safeguarding their Imaan through offering a Muslim
home in place of a non-Muslim placement. We currently offer an allowance
of ?306 per week per child, and expect you to have a spare room and a
caring attitude. You can even be a working couple to look after teenagers
as a number of our existing carers are.
Assessment can take between 3-5 months, and we need carers all over London
and the borders of the surrounding counties, but particularly in SE London.
