VERY INTERESTING,.,,,,,, I DON'T PERSONALLY CARE WHAT CULTURE MY FUTURE HUSBANDS FROM,,,,, BUT HE MUST BE A MUSLIM AS LIKE THE OTHER GALS I WANT MY CHILDREN TO KNOW THEY ARE MUSLIMS AND FOLLOW ISLAM,,,,,,,AND KNOW THEY IS ONLY ONE GOD ALLAH AND MOHAMMED(PBUH)IS HIS MESSENGER!!!!!!!!!!
IF I EVER GOT INVOLVED WITH A NON MUSLIM THEN HE'LL HAVE TO STUDY ISLAM BEFORE OUR MARRIAGE AND ACCEPT IT THEN HE WILL BE BLESSED WITH A NICE WIFE LIKE ME LAILA!!!

the hadith goes that on the day of judgement good people will be called by the best names they were known by in life. the evil ones will be called by their worst names. this is due to the honour that will be given to the believers on that day. in this sense perhaps changing ur name is merely good practice. i suppose the question is this: Is it obligatory to change ones name or is it simply more virtuous? there are episodes from the time of the prophet in which he himself changed the names of some of his companions if they had clearly pagan names (e.g. Abdul-Hubal; hubal was the name of an ancient arab god and abdul is "servant of") or they had unattractive meanings. Ali (the prophet's cousin and son-in-law) wanted to call his first son Harb (which means "war") but the prophet didnt like it and changed it to al-Hassan ("the beautiful one"). he also said that the best names are the ones with (a) hamd in them (muhammad, ahmad, hammad etc) because they have meanings to do with being praiseworthy (b) are prefixed with abd (abdul etc) because they denote servitude to Allah. so the answer to the question is that althought its not obligatory, it is definitely more virtuous.

begsy i remember reading a question to the religious expert in a saudi newspaper yearso ago .. someone wanted to know what to call their child.. the answers were - various names, eg. 'anything ending in an a' for a girl will do because it sounds islamic... the main thing is for the name to have a good, pleasing meaning, and not a bad one.. so the name issue doesn't seem to be that strict

Same as Choti..Avoid getting into a relationship of this sort..however if you do then the person converting should be doing it for the right reasons..not just to be with you..they should practice it too..Can someone tell me, if one converts to Islam, do they have to change their name as well?

Morals, no I still wouldn't bother them with the idea of conversion. I doubt very much that conversion would change anything very much, for me at least.

To be honest, I don't think I would care which religion they were. What matters to me most is the kind of person you are, not the label you claim.
