Zabiha Meat

I've been recently pondering about the guidelines of halaal/haraam meat. I've grown up in a family where my parents always told me to eat Zabiha meat and nothing else. I was never allowed to eat any meat from restaurants or any products that had that kind of stuff. Recently I came into contact with someone that said that Zabiha is purely a Sunnah, but it is not haraam to eat meat that has not been slaughtered the Zabiha way. Does anyone know what exactly Muslims are supposed to be eating in terms of meat?

I wanted to ask the same question. However, since I don't have the answer so I only eat zabiha meat. Here in Canada there is a certificate issued by some Muslim organization so if that certificate is present at the store then you know that the meat is zabiha. Also, usually desi stores have zabiha meat and I go with their word. I am sure since they are muslims so they won't lie to other muslims in such a matter.

You should check the stamp or seal on their box of meat (and hope they haven't just shown you a box they keep for such purposes).... in the UK they are supposed to have a halal certificate....on a brighter note, if a restaurant owner/ butcher/ friend tells you you're eating halal meat and they're lying then you're exempt and the blame lies with them
